Job Description
Photothermal Spectroscopy Corp. (PSC) develops award winning microscopy and chemical analysis tools used for scientific research and development and has pioneered the field of optical photothermal IR spectroscopy (O-PTIR). Our rapidly growing scientific instrumentation company is looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time position, in our downtown Santa Barbara facility.
This opportunity requires an individual who is self-motivated, very organized, passionate about technology, works well in a diverse team environment and is interested in a supportive role for mechanical design and manufacturing support. The candidate must have a strong work ethic and a willingness to accept responsibility. This position will primarily report to the Director of Systems Engineering. Minimal travel is required for this position.
Summary of Duties:
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Responsible for existing product improvements and supporting the release of new products
· Manage Engineering Change Requests from various organization groups: Manufacturing, Test, Service, Applications, etc.
· Support the Design and Documentation of Engineering Specials from Sales, typically minor modifications to existing products for customer specific orders.
· Maintain the Mechanical Design Library of Models, Assemblies, Parts, Drawings, Purchased Parts, Fasteners along with other mechanical design content
· Maintain Supplier Product Specification Documentation in the engineering library
· Design, develop, and document plastic, sheet metal, additive manufactured technologies and machine components and assemblies utilizing SolidWorks 3D CAD software.
· Regular maintenance of Bills-of-Materials content, supplier and purchased part requirements documentation
· Offer troubleshooting assistance to other engineers and staff to resolve mechanical design issues or supplier non-conformance corrections and implement appropriate changes and change-control to CAD Design Drawings and Assembly Procedures as needed
· Problem solving, including root cause analysis
· Implement corrective and preventive actions for production non-conformances
· Create initial Assembly procedures while performing fitment and DFM/A checks, particularly on new released designs
· Multitask on numerous projects & missions at different levels of development, (design, fabrication, testing, etc)
· Design and Develop any required Tooling or Equipment to support Manufacturing and Test
· Engineering and production documentation
· Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
A successful candidate will have the following minimal qualifications:
· BS degree, or equivalent, in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, mathematics, applied science or related field
· 3 years of experience in a full-time Mechanical Engineer and/or Manufacturing Engineering position
· Intermediate to expert-level background using CAD software, such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, or ProEngineer (SolidWorks is preferred)
· Create, Modify and Design: Manufacturing Documentation with SolidWorks and SolidWorks Drawings
· Proficient in reading and creating detailed fabrication drawings utilizing GD&T and mechanical tolerance analysis
· Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas
· Proficiency in MS Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
· Excellent communication skills
· Excellent documentation organization skills
