Manufacturing Quality Engineer in Schenectady, NY area to oversee the Plant Floor for a major manufacturer of industrial and commercial Watertube and Firetube boilers. Must be able to Interpret and comply with code requirements of ASME and adherence to ASME Section I, IV and VIII, UL, CSA codes. You will assist with qualifying and managing welding production personnel. Improving and/or modifying existing production methods; researching, developing and testing new products and materials. This position works closely with our Design Engineers, Manufacturing Manager, and Supervisor to ensure BOM’s and incoming material meets our standard of excellence. You will be responsible to review, develop, and maintain all quality documentation. Performs in process inspections, layouts, and measurements daily. Participate in third party audits.

Pay Range: $55,000 to $75,000 based on experience
Job Summary:
Lead our Quality Program at the plant level to ensure our product delivered to customers meets Company’s internal quality standards with regard to standard assembly processes, Mandatory/General assembly specifications, final inspections standard, work-in process standards and raw material standards. Drive accountability through data; establish structure and consistency throughout the organization by developing, implementing, and maintaining the quality and continuous improvement operating system. Transform from traditional quality practices to a proactive integrated quality approach.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Results Area:
- Ensure standard operating procedures are sustained in the assembly processes.
- Ensure assembly operations conform to general and mandatory specifications.
- Manage the implementation of new processes and procedures regarding the introduction of new products or equipment.
- Coordinate with other departments to develop and implement standard operating procedures for all assembly and quality processes.
- Develop and implement improved standard procedures through the lean process and tools; document so improved process can become organization standard.
- Ensure equipment is capable of meeting required product quality standards and can repeatedly reproduce these results.
- Ensure that the proper training of all pertinent personnel on standard operating procedures is performed.
- Train supervision on newly introduced assembly procedures in the general specifications.
- Train associates in standard inspection procedures and process audit techniques.
- Validate accurate work-in-process and finished goods defect tracking.
- Perform periodic audit of finished products.
- Perform periodic audit of work-in-process records.
- Audit of adherence to bills of material.
- Recommendation of corrective actions to plant management.
- Statistical analysis of collected data, tracking defect back to process, cell, material or individual.
- Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
- Recommend process improvements to plant management.
- Participate in quality reporting and management review process.
- Manage quality metrics and present findings and recommendations to the management review team.
- Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques.
- Participate in customer meetings and visits; answer customer complaints using an 8D or any other approved formats.
- Other Responsibilities and Activities may be required.
Qualifications
- Associates in Engineering or science field.
- 3 - 5+ years experience in Process/Manufacturing Engineering or Quality Assurance in plant environment.
- Process improvement knowledge in a manufacturing environment such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, etc. to drive operational excellence systems is a plus.
- Six Sigma Green Belt training or certification is Desired.
- Experience in process design/improvement, new production implementation.
- Ability to effectively collaborate cross functionally a must.
- Ability to work in a team atmosphere with little supervision.
- Prior supervision experience or CQE Certification is a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex ideas in easy-to-understand business terms.
- Excellent people, leadership, and stakeholder management skills a must.
- Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work independent and in a team environment
- Excellent planning, organization, and prioritization skills.
- High level of self-motivation, initiative, and flexibility. A Must.
- Strong computer skills for Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PDF PRO
- Ability to interpret basic drawings.
- CAD or SolidWorks experience a Plus.
