Position Summary


The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring product quality, and supporting new product introductions. This role will involve close coordination with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve production efficiencies, reduce costs, and maintain high standards for product quality. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in design, manufacturing, and lean methodologies to identify improvement opportunities, manage process documentation, and provide technical insight during product launches. This role demands a strong understanding of manufacturing for heavy-duty industrial products, including design for manufacturability and the use of ERP systems for process tracking and optimization.


Primary Responsibilities


1. Product Documentation

o Create and update engineering documents, including CAD drawings, BOMs, and engineering change orders.

o Manage documentation to ensure stakeholders have the latest updates.

o Adjust designs as needed based on cross-functional feedback and engineering changes.


2. Product Development & Improvement


o Contribute to product designs to optimize manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.

o Collaborate with design engineers and production to address manufacturing challenges.

o Lead prototype builds and assess prototypes for manufacturing feasibility.


3. Process Documentation & Improvement

o Record workflows, equipment usage, and time cycles for current processes.

o Identify and address process bottlenecks, integrating safety and lean principles.

o Lead continuous improvement initiatives, educating and involving employees in process optimizations.


4. Quality Systems & Resolution

o Implement quality checkpoints within the production process to detect issues early.

o Conduct root cause analysis on defects and lead corrective action implementations.


5. Machine Performance & Capability

o Establish and maintain machine performance metrics.

o Develop preventative maintenance schedules and make recommendations on equipment repairs or replacements.


6. ISO 9001 Implementation (American Reels)

o Partner with the UEA Quality Department to implement and maintain ISO 9001 standards, including preparing for audits and training team members on compliance requirements.


7. ERP Deployment Support

o Support ERP setup and integration within manufacturing and engineering departments.

o Train production team members on ERP system usage and ensure data accuracy.

Requirements:


Requirements

· Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.


· Experience: Minimum 5 years in design/mechanical engineering, preferably within industrial product manufacturing. Must have experience with lean manufacturing and ERP tools (Syteline experience preferred).


· Skills: Strong listening and communication skills, excellent time management, organization, and prioritization abilities, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing ERP systems.


· Physical: Able to sit, stand, bend, walk, and perform essential visual tasks with reasonable accommodations if necessary.


· Mental: Fluent in English with the ability to handle high-pressure situations and projects with financial impact.


Work Environment


The Manufacturing Engineer will primarily work in a temperature-controlled, smoke-free office within the manufacturing plant, but will regularly engage in the production floor. The factory environment includes typical hazards like noise, dust, cutting and drilling tools, solvents, and potential tripping hazards. This position involves managing high-output periods and meeting tight deadlines as market demands fluctuate. This is an exempt level position, with the expectation of completing all duties regardless of hours worked. This position may require some minimal travel, anticipated at 5% or less.


Flexibility is required to meet business needs, and travel is minimal but may vary based on business demands.
