DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

This role leads the multifaceted business unit manufacturing engineering and maintenance team across five operating groups and five distinct sub-functions supporting over 40 manufacturing plants across the U.S.  Creates a vision and strategy aligned with the business unit value proposition and long-term financial goals.  Champions annual Capital, Automation, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and process improvement deployment across the operations network.

A seasoned executive leader that leads cross-functionally and through a matrix organizational design by collaboratively developing and leading the execution of the engineering strategy through the Strategic Annual Planning process.

Develop a technical resource team across the Business Unit network to enhance the advancement of advanced manufacturing technology, automation solutions, product portfolio management, and network optimization.

Responsible for capital budgeting process and spending adherence to budget. Key measures of success include: Strategic Annual Plan Completion, Financial and Key Performance Indicator Goal Achievement, Annualized Cost Take Out, Capital Spend vs. Budget, First Pass Yield – Process Derived, Cost of Poor Quality, OTIF, Labor Productivity, PM, Planned vs Reactive Maintenance, Unplanned Downtime, and TPM System Audit Scores (E.g. TPM).

  • Partners with business unit leadership team, maintenance, innovation and product engineering to develop a forward-looking vision, associated strategies and roadmaps for each of the primary areas of responsibility aligned with long-term business unit vision and financial objectives
  • The following functions:

    • Plant and Equipment Maintenance (TPM)
  • Leads the business unit engineering and maintenance team and indirectly the plant engineering and maintenance teams to realize vision and strategy
  • Identify and implement new technologies that lead to a competitive operations advantage; improving safety, driving cost out, capacity and utilization up, improving quality and ensuring high levels of on time in full delivery.  Ensures that SOPs are developed to guide manufacturing teams in the proper use of new technology, collaborating with EHS and Quality to provide reaction plans for addressing out-of-standard conditions
  • Develop and implement advanced annual automation strategy comprising of third-party industry equipment supply as well as custom developed and business process waste reducing solutions
  • Develop equipment and process standards that inform and align equipment purchases and process adherence while working with procurement team on terms, contracts and equipment production capacity allocation commitments where applicable
  • Maintains relationships with Equipment and Automation vendors.  Ensures SOWs, Service Agreements, and Technical Training agreements are adhered to by vendors and manufacturing locations
  • Manage proprietary and non-disclosure agreements with internal corporate legal and compliance teams for third party solution providers as needed
  • Develop and maintain centralized database of production capacity, capability and utilization for all sites / products.  Optimize overall manufacturing capacity to ensure CBB’s value proposition attainment at the best return on investment. Improve the average manufacturing equipment aging metric ensuring customer’s expectations for supply, quality and OTIF expectations are met
  • Co-lead the development and implementation of manufacturing network optimization and product simplifications strategies.  Lead the construction of new facilities, upkeep of current sites and rationalization / consolidation of facilities to optimize manufacturing network fungibility and maximize EBITDA
  • Deploy Total Productive Maintenance methodology across the operations network resulting in demonstration of improved operational efficiencies through effective Predictive, Preventative and reactive maintenance process
  • Sponsor and lead the implementation and advancement of the Asset Essentials CMMS system
  • Support and participate in the due diligence of M&A targets including synergy identification, integration planning and execution
  • Lead and maintain the technical resource organizational design at the business unit and plant network level through formal span of control design. Ensures resources are appropriately deployed across the network to achieve goals and objectives. Ensures appropriate internal and external training and technical knowledge is appropriate in each of the 5 functional areas of Engineering and Maintenance
  • Lead by example demonstrating the key attributes of the Cornerstone Building Brands culture including, Safety, Integrity and Inclusion while promoting and demonstrating Continuous Improvement, Interconnectedness and Customer Centricity
  • Lead and Participate in Capital Investment FAT, SAT, PPSR, and Launch Management to ensure investments achieve desired outcomes.  In collaboration with Business Unit leaders, ensure countermeasures are developed from lessons learned during launch process
  • Deploys resources appropriately and in collaboration with Operational Leadership Team to ensure equipment readiness and during periods of significant reliability impacts that have potential to impact Workplace Safety, Product Safety, or Customer Centricity such as Quality or On Time and In Full delivery

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Advanced degree preferred. (Master’s in engineering or business administration

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of Executive-level Faceted technical team leadership experience in a multi-billion-dollar organization
  • A minimum of 15 years technical management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of business and financial acumen, organizational agility, ability to work and lead cross functionally
  • Experience leading custom automation implementation strategy development and execution
  • Experience leading process engineering, analytics and process improvement efforts to increase manufacturing capability across a broad network of plants
  • Capital budget process management.  Budget development, project prioritization, equipment selection through effective acceptance testing, ramp up and justification achievement

  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a wide array of audiences, from factory floor employees to C suite leaders.
  • Ability to develop a reputation as a seasoned broad thinking executive team member able to foresee and participate in scenario planning across a variety of organizational circumstances
  • Demonstrated ability to lead transformational change though strategy deployment and formal structured management system development and implementation
  • A demonstrated track record of achieving people excellence through team member development
  • Plant and Equipment predictive and preventative maintenance process development and implementation experience
  • Advanced project management, capital appropriation request process development and leadership
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, both domestic and internationally
  • Skilled “advanced level” in the use of MS Office suite of products
  • Familiarity with EHS, Quality and Continuous Improvement Management Systems and Processes
  • Prior operations leadership experience desired
  • Preference for candidates with Fenestration industry experience

Other

Must be able to work in a manufacturing plant environment with moderate to heavy exposure to plant dusts, fumes, noise, chemicals, and temperature extremes.
