An Electrical Systems Engineer contributes scale-up activities of Energy Systems equipment and processes, manages and monitors electrical hardware and systems controls for all manufacturing equipment. Working as part of the Energy Systems R&D team, leads teams to design, scale up and plan production systems to be safe, cost-effective, sustainable, and meet quality requirements. Along the way, identify ways to enhance R&D asset capability (lab, pilot, and commercial) to de-risk technology development and open new product/process opportunities. Specifically, the Electrical Systems Engineer will be focused on electrical requirements including transformer selection, high current and medium/high voltage systems, instrumentation and controls, and operation optimization of electrical systems.

To be successful in this role, the candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and a team player. Being able to lead by example and effectively communicate operational information by means understandable to all levels of the ES organization are a must. This role is unique to the R&D team in that it combines manufacturing, maintenance, electrical safety, and standard operating practices (work orders, MOC, LOTO, etc.). Proficiency in low and medium voltage systems, direct current, transformer design/function, and related instrumentation are a must. Major challenges for this role will be incorporating practices into the R&D environment, integrating existing PLCs and DCS(s) systems, interacting with a team of operators, and coordinating experimentation with scientists and engineers across different functions. Additionally, this role will act as a liaison for large facility design of electrical systems and will act as an electrical systems engineering subject matter expert while engaging with internal and external vendors and stakeholders.

CANDIDATE MUST HAVE ADVANCED KNOWLEDGE OF FUNDAMENTAL ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING PRINCIPLES ON THE MANUFACTURING SIDE.  Must have a BS In Electrical Engineering with 5 + years of industrial and/or equipment design experience. 

Principal Accountabilities

1.    Electrical systems design and management

·         Understand and develop current and new electrical systems to support demonstration scale and full-scale production assets

·         Integrate existing PLC and DCS control systems focusing on future scale up design.

·         Coordinate with vendors on equipment selection, inspection and third-party support.

·         Coordinate with utilities providers on system integration.

·         Manage and support all low and medium voltage equipment

·         Organize and update the overall site electrical documentation.

 

2.    Conduct operation of ES equipment according to established procedures

•        Develop and implement safety inspections for pre-startup of equipment

•        Perform equipment operation

•        Provide technical instructions on electrical equipment operation and good practices related to others

•        Review procedures and experimental designs prior to beginning tasks

•        Review trials results and equipment performance to drive future equipment improvements

•        Maintains standard operating procedures and other document/task management systems (MOC, LOTO, etc)

•        Assigns job and task ownership

3.    EPC engagement

•        Interface with EPC personnel on equipment selection and integration

•        Support project leadership with critical capital deployment for ES

4.    Manufacturing equipment and systems support

•        Support installation, process development, and operation of critical equipment at manufacturing sites

•        Be accountable of site preventive inspection plan to guarantee attendance of equipment maintenance and local legislation requirements.

5.    Prepare technical reports and regular updates

•        Prepare and review technical reports from product/process trials.

·         Provide regular updates to leadership regarding state of operation of ES equipment.
