Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer for Mechanical Joining process, who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can effectively manage large scale design and installation projects. The ideal candidate will use a first-principles approach to solve engineering problems and design solutions to meet the needs of Tesla. The team is responsible for designing, developing, and installing new manufacturing lines for Body and GA. Through understanding program requirements and collaborating with various cross-functional teams, this team ensures new lines are integrated with other processes and are capable of meeting Tesla's objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with Vehicle Joining Engineering, Process Engineering and Structures Design Engineering to support Design for Manufacturability (DFM) in new programs in the design and validation phases
  • During high volume launching, this role will work on the mechanical joining equipment (SPR, Bolting, Clinching) installation, commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuring close collaboration with Tesla's partner vendors to deliver the line in the shortest possible timing and within project budgets
•Stabilize joining process in high volume manufacturing environment after SOP
  • Take direct responsibility for achieving joining quality targets and leading all activities towards this objective including the development of quality control plans and PFMEA
  • Plan and execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for mechanical joining manufacturability and quality
  • Review joints strength and related data for quality analysis
  • Arrange joining process training for production maintenance team
  • Collect and prepare the final documentation package to ensure the long-term sustainability and optimization of new production lines


Requirements
  • B.S. or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of related experience developing and launching joining processes in automotive industries
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of joining process, equipment, and metallurgy
  • Able to function independently, be a strong collaborator when working in a team, detail oriented, organized, hands-on and able to make strong decisions
  • Remain engaged, initiative-taking, positive in tough circumstances, owning assignments and taking full accountability for their success
  • Be results and data driven, and able to effect change based on data
  • Communicate clearly using written and verbal skills
  • Extensive proficiency creating written and pictorial documentation of manufacturing processes
  • Collect, analyze, and summarize information to a general understanding, thinking abstractly and separating complex ideas into simple elements
  • Experience with Robotic and/or adhesive dispensing system is preferable
  • Experienced with AUTOCAD, CATIA 3DX and other similar software/tools
  • Mastery of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
