Job Description
Oppermann Webbing, a leader in the textile manufacturing industry is looking to fill the position of Finishing Operator. We have availability on all shifts.
General Description: Operates battery of machines to process and package webbing products in accordance with customer requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reads production order and determines process and machine or machines to be used in supplying webbing in accordance to customer specifications: printing machine (if material needs to have a printed logo or rating information); blocking machine (if material needs to be rolled up to certain length); automated cutting machine (if material needs to be cut and rolled); hand cutter (when small cut pieces are required); or the festoon machine (if customer requires continuous or bulk webbing strapping).
- Guides webbing onto shaft of machines by hand.
- Keys in information on automated machines for cutting length, or depresses pedal to start and control speed of machine and verifies yard counter to roll or package material on festoon machine according to specifications.
- Scans strapping for weaving or dyeing defects; may cut out defects, using scissors, and keeps two cut out ends together using required tape at allowable intervals.
- Measures random samples to determine if machine is cutting material as specified. Stops machine if cutting does not meet specifications and performs adjustments. Notifies supervisor of problems encountered with material or machines for corrective action.
- Bundles cut pieces with rubber bands, or secures end of rolls with staples, labels or pins.
- Records on “Routing Slip and Error Log” information on the order number and material processed, carton weight, total footage processed, and number of cuts (splices) in roll, or bulk webbing. Provides completed paperwork to supervisor for production recordkeeping and billing.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Manufacturing is preferred, but not necessary.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- This job has no computer skills required.
- Must regularly lift up to 50lbs unassisted and move up to 500lbs with mechanical assistance. Must be able to adapt to temperature changes. Close, distance, color and peripheral vision required for inspection of the material.
