Job Description
The Commercial Manufacturing Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of complex equipment and machinery in a commercial sheet metal fabrication facility or in a steel processing center. $31.00-$38.00 per hour. 6 am-2:30 pm M-F.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Uses hand tools, power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments to set up, repair and maintain, in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications, machinery and mechanical equipment, such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and production machines and equipment.
- Ensures new and existing machines are prepared for operation following protocols and procedures and performs regular technical testing to ensure their safety and efficiency.
- Troubleshoots malfunctions, identifies and locates sources and root causes of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation.

- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools, examining form and texture of parts.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straight edges. - Controls downtime by advising production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques.
- Where feasible, fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt. - Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting data on machine operations, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Regularly disseminates essential mechanical maintenance information through progress reports or by addressing questions and requests.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications and professional networking.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and abilities required to perform this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED required; College, Technical School is a plus.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a senior machine maintenance technician role, preferably in a complex manufacturing environment. Minimum 2 years of experience with pneumatic systems.
- Minimum 2 years of experience with hydraulic systems.
- Intermediate electrical experience is a plus.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with exemplary analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience-based knowledge of sheet metal fabrication or steel processing machinery and their functions.
- Must be able to read blueprints, schematics, and drawings.
- Ability to perform work under minimal supervision and to effectively handle complex issues and problems.
- Ability to work as a part of a team and lead by example in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to pass background check and drug screen.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and write routine job reports/job orders with attention to detail. Ability to understand job instructions and to follow subject-specific technical directions. Ability to communicate electronically with basic understanding of computers & programs.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Attention to detail is a requirement.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to interpret, understand, and carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
ATTENDANCE DEMANDS: Attendance is required Monday through Friday within normal business hours as established by the supervisor. Employee may have the opportunity to work overtime.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Employee must be able to communicate readily and to talk and hear.
