Tesla's Manufacturing Engineering team is at the forefront of developing first-of-a-kind processes which allow us to produce amazing vehicles at best-in-class quality and rate in a safe and ergonomic environment. The Coatings team is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to design and develop booths, material handling, and manual processes for our coating products. This includes process development, specification and validation, establishing and optimizing critical process parameters, design for manufacturing, equipment specification and design, as well as installation and commissioning. The candidate will work closely with internal cross-functional teams, external vendors, and technology partners on booths development from concept to production. This role requires a thorough understanding of manufacturing engineering fundamentals, substantial skill with 2D/3D CAD, and aggressive design optimization.Responsibilities Lead conveyance & material handling development from concept to serial production, including developing highly optimized conveyance/material handling designs which simplify the manufacturing processLead research and development of advanced conveyance technologies, conveyance strategy, development, trials, and testing that shape the design of the conveyance and/or productLead conveyance release through detailed equipment specification, manufacturing instructions, workstation and line layouts, product trials, and prototype production managementDevelop detailed material flow models for new products/shops to project material flow headcount, assess congestion, execute buffer quantities, and ensure overall feasibilityDevelop detail manual process solutions while conceptually modeling automated solutions to collaborate with internal teams on business casesDevelop innovative, cost-effective solutions with the packaging/material flow team for part presentation, packing density, sustainability in automated and manual solutionsLead detailed line design & layout based on process & application conveyance requirements, throughput and OEE calculationsLead process verification for conveyance including developing acceptance testing criteria & meeting requirements using statistical tools (such as GR&R, SPC and Cp/Cpk)Lead product design for manufacturability (DFM) and sustainability, including analysis of product design and identification of potential risks to the conveyance, support FMEA, documentation of product requirements, develop solutions to address critical risks, and steering product design to the lowest overall costDesign, engineer, and manage large-scale projects for new programs, including development of timing plans and cost breakdowns for executive approval, identification of risks to project timing to drive corrective action, regular reporting of project status to executive team, and oversight of installation and commissioning of new manufacturing lines Requirements 5 or more years of experience in a technology-based industry, where automated methods are utilized in the finishing/coating of consumer productsExperience working with or developing functional/aesthetic coating processes (automotive paint and powder coating)Experience with developing, installing, and commissioning high-volume conveyance & material handling systems (overhead conveyors, floor conveyors, material handling systems with automation & robotics powered industrial equipment, automated guided vehicles, and rail-guided vehicles)Experience in line layout, concept development, industrial engineering methods, new product introduction, manufacturing operations & optimization for conveyance, material handling & manual processes in a high-volume manufacturing environmentProficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures, and tooling in CAD, reading & interpreting mechanical drawings and electrical schematics, automation industry standards, safety standards, and development & deployment of PFMEAsProficient with CAD software (Catia, SolidWorks, Inventor, Navisworks, Revit, or AutoCAD) to design conveyance systems & material handling systemsProficient with 3D dynamic simulation software (WinMod)Travel required 25-50%Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience Compensation and Benefits BenefitsAlong with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire: Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits Dental (including orthodontic coverage) and vision plans, both have options with a $0 paycheck contribution Company Paid (Health Savings Account) HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) LGBTQ+ care concierge services 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance Employee Assistance Program Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays Back-up childcare and parenting support resources Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs Tesla Babies program Commuter benefits Employee discounts and perks program
