Job Title: Warehouse Associate

Job Status: Full-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Warehouse or Branch Manager

Summary: Receives, stores, and distributes material, tools, equipment, and products within company guidelines. Compiles orders for customers (internal and external) and loads them appropriately.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads shipment schedule, sales order, work order, transfer order, or purchase order to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed.
  • Transports material and items around the warehouse/dock or to other designated areas.
  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence such as location, size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Fills sales orders, work orders, transfer orders, purchase orders, equipment, or other items and distributes items to shipping area and delivery vehicles.
  • Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or transports orders to shipping department, loading dock, or delivery vehicle.
  • Marks materials with identifying information.
  • Opens bales, crates, and other containers.
  • Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed.
  • Weighs or counts items for distribution within warehouse to ensure conformance to company standards.
  • Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for transport by other workers.
  • Uses computer to enter records.
  • Compiles worksheets or tickets from customer specifications.
  • Drives forklift to transport stored items around warehouse and loading dock from several locations for shipment.
  • Completes reorder forms to order supplies.
  • Prepares parcels for parcel shipping or freight carrier.
  • Maintains inventory records.
  • Other duties as assigned as necessitated by business demands.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or at least three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, vendors, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems in various situations.
  • Ability to use the computer for such tasks as inventory record-keeping, material receiving, order shipments, vendor returns, and modifying/saving computer files.
  • May be required to have, or obtain, forklift operator certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting: Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 100 pounds intermittently and 40 pounds continuously throughout the work shift.
  • Standing: Ability to stand for long periods of time while accomplishing tasks.
  • Carrying: Ability to transport an object from one spot to another.
  • Pushing /Pulling: Ability to push/pull a pallet jack and loaded pallet.
  • Climbing: Ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and ramps using hands and feet while carrying material.
  • Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching: Ability to bend body downward, forward, at the waist, at the knees, resting on the knees, requiring full use of lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Handling: Ability to seize, grasp, and turn requiring full use of fingers, hands, arms, and torso.
  • Vision: Ability to clearly see up close, at a distance, in color, peripherally, have depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Ability to clearly see to read shipping papers, product labels, receipts, and motorists.

Work Environment:

  • Subject to extreme heat and extreme cold, typically between 30 degrees F and 100 degrees F for periods of more than one hour.
  • Subject to the weather such as rain or fog.
  • Subject to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles and equipment, and working on ladders and high places.
  • Moderate to high noise level.
