COMPENSATION: $21.59-$26.97
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week, Full-Time
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Assistant General Manager, Finance
Summary:
The Accounting Clerk is responsible for supporting the organization's accounts receivable and accounts payable functions. This role will ensure that financial transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. The position requires strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The accounting clerk will be responsible for compiling billing information, processing payments, reconciling accounts, and maintaining financial records.
Responsibilities:
Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Compile detailed billing information to issue customer invoices.
- Apply customer payments to the appropriate accounts.
- Research and resolve payment discrepancies to maintain accurate records.
- Adjust accounts when required to correct billing or payment issues.
- Prepare and deposit weekly manual payments.
- Generate weekly reports for accountants to ensure financial accuracy.
Accounts Payable (AP):
- Reconcile processed transactions by verifying entries and comparing system reports to actual balances.
- Charge expenses to appropriate accounts and cost centers by analyzing invoices and recording entries.
- Process vendor payments by scheduling checks, monitoring discount opportunities, verifying federal ID numbers, and resolving any discrepancies with purchase orders, contracts, invoices, or payments.
- Maintain accurate accounting ledgers by verifying and posting account transactions.
- Reconcile vendor accounts by reviewing monthly statements and related transactions.
- Maintain historical records by filing and archiving documents.
- Manage petty cash disbursements by recording entries and verifying supporting documentation.
- Report sales tax by calculating requirements on paid invoices.
- Protect the organization's value by maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Participate in educational opportunities to keep updated on accounting knowledge and best practices.

- Work will be performed both inside and outside on a regular basis, in most weather conditions.

- Evening, weekend, and holiday shifts are required as a normal part of this position.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk extended period. The employee occasionally is required to bend, climb, stoop, lift, carry, push, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 15 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Required Qualifications:
- A certificate or degree in accounting, or 2-3 years of experience in an accounting role.
- Valid AZ driver's license, provide a 39-month satisfactory MVR report.
- Obtain a Tribal operator driving permit at the time of hire.
- A satisfactory result obtained through a test for illegal drugs.
- Acknowledge and agree to maintain a drug-free workplace.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of correspondence requirements in a professional environment.
- Proficiency in using accounting software, spreadsheets, and word processing programs.
- Strong basic math skills, including the ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy and tact.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, organize, and manage time effectively.
- Strong independent judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Knowledge and experience working with Gila River Indian Community or other Native American Communities.
- Proficient in MS office and other relevant workplace tools.
