Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a highly responsible position providing professional dental services to the pediatric clients of the Leon County Health Department, Molar Express. These duties include:

This individual provides dental services consisting of examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, and care of conditions within the human oral cavity and its adjacent tissues and structures, including emergency, surgical, preventive, and restorative dental care to Medicaid children and clients who are members of other programs in which Department of Health (DOH)-Leon participates. Performs diagnostic, preventive, restorative and minor surgical procedures within the scope of the dental practice act. Develops treatment plans and maintains treatment records in accordance with the dental practice act. Coordinates and directs the clinical portion of dental services provided by DOH-Leon. Monitors quality of care to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements. This individual assures compliance of all dental record documentation with federal and state law and with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) -Bureau of Dental Program expectations. Works independently and makes decisions based on analysis of data and knowledge of dental practice. Maintains skills and completes on-going training to maintain active license in accordance with the dental practice act.

Supports the Dental Clinic Manager in providing guidance regarding the professional work of dental assistants and dental hygienists including assisting in the performance evaluation process.

Work includes promotion and establishment of population-based dental preventive and educational programs and related dental public health activities. Collaborates with the Dental Clinic Manager to promote community and school-based preventive educational programs. Provides consultative and technical assistance to public and private entities regarding oral health issues.

Other duties as assigned including required participation in CHD disaster emergency training and response activities.

Security/Information Access: This position has a "Need to Know" for the following information sets: immunization records, medical records, WIC records, Pharmacy records, and billing records.

Incumbents may be required to perform emergency duty before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days. Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent include but are not limited to special needs shelters, Red Cross shelters, or other emergency functions.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat dental injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures.

Qualifications:

Minimum – This occupation requires licensure as a Dentist in accordance with Chapter 466, Florida Statutes.

Preferred – experience treating children.
