POSITION SUMMARY:
The cook is responsible for assisting the Manager in cooking food, storage of food, sanitation, and serving food to meet the needs and requirements of Sisters, employees, visitors, and guests. Preparing and serving meals according to methods of safe food handling. Maintain cleanliness of storerooms and all refrigerators. Must be able to work with others and exercise patience.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALITIES:
Responsibilities:
• Check daily kitchen temperature logs and closing check lists are completed
• Wash, prepare and cut vegetables for the daily salad bar as well as what the cook will need for the other meals
• Wash, prepare and cut fruit for the daily fruit platter
• Prepare the daily dessert
• Support proper rotation and sanitation of inventory daily
• Prepare, serve, and store food according to recognized safe food handling practices including but not limited to temperature, labeling, date maintenance and rotation
• If time allows prep for next day
• Cook meals when Manager is not available
• Set up of dining room when attendant is not available
• Clean kitchen and its contents; sanitization of pots, pans, cooking utensils, floors, and counters. Cleaning should be in accordance with standard food/safety protocols to pass health inspections
• Maintain a safe working environment by following standard safety protocols
• Help with proper storage of incoming deliveries

Qualities:
• Initiative and judgment in setting up meals, seasoning food, and presenting food in an attractive manner
• Must be able to cook a variety of foods in small quantities and be able to make simple estimates relative to quantities of food required and the proper cooking methods and times for various cuts of meat
• Contribute to a climate where hospitality, compassion and mutual support are expressed to those who serve and those being served
• Assist and collaborate with co-workers as time permits or when requested by Supervisor. Show respect for colleagues in all interactions
• Follow the principles of Resident Rights and Resident Privacy; always shown by respecting residents and supporting their dignity
• Abide by the HIPAA regulations by always respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the sisters. If uncertain about how to proceed, refer all issues to the Administrator
• Complete all required staff education programs and health requirements
• Respect the physical environment of the Julie House Residential Care Center and report any accidents/repairs needed promptly to the Administrator

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/REQUIRED SKILLS:
Education: High School graduate; completion of courses in food preparation desired
Experience: Prior work in a food service environment is preferred; previous work with geriatric population is desired
Physical and Special Demands: Requires the ability to do routine bending, lifting to 50 Lbs., standing and walking for prolonged periods. Some irregularity in scheduled hours due to holidays, special functions, and vacation coverage
