Supplier Quality Engineer

EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Supplier Quality Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division. This position will be located in our Germantown, MD location.
Responsibilities: Working with suppliers of various mechanical components, to ensure compliance to HNS requirements and metrics. Document & communicate issues using measurement, photographic and video equipment. Work in a fast-paced production environment to provide technical support to Operations/Manufacturing personnel. Working with potential new suppliers to survey their manufacturing capabilities including production processes to ensure products will meet PPM level quality standards. Interaction and coordination with design engineering personnel to ensure smooth product transitions from development to high volume production. Review potential supplier quality issues at incoming inspection, new product introductions, high volume production & customer returns. Participate in MRB process to disposition non-conforming materials and will drive the associated 8D problem solving process. Support Procurement through input to supplier selection, review of new cost reduced and alternate parts via the send-ahead process. Participate in Concurrent Engineering (CE) Team meetings to communicate problems and work with Team to resolve issues. Programming and Running Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMM), both laser and touch probe. Ability for occasional travel is required.
Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field 3+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Component engineering background. Understanding of quality systems and processes such as ISO9001, AS9100D, SPC, PPAP and six sigma methodologies. Effectively communicate with design engineers, manufacturing personnel and lead root cause and corrective action efforts Quality background working with suppliers. Technical knowledge of mechanical parts and assemblies, to lead efforts to improve quality and production test yields. Familiarity with MiniTab statistical database tool or equivalent. Fluent with GD&T callouts and requirements. Experience with SAP is preferred. Good communication skills, both verbal and written is a must. Proficient in MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Experience with CMM software (PCDMIS), CAD (CREO or Solidworks), and CAM software (MasterCam) preferred.
Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
