Job Details: Our client is seeking a highly organized and experienced Data Manager to lead and oversee our data management and governance efforts. In this role, you will be responsible for the quality, reliability, transparency, accessibility and availability of data across the organization. You will work closely with the Director of Data Management & Strategy as well as other cross-functional teams to execute data policies, establish data standards, and ensure data integrity to support key business decisions. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented leader with a passion for data management, governance, and analytics.
*Must be onsite in Houston, Texas.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Data Manager, you will be responsible for: 1. Data Governance Develop and implement data governance frameworks, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and compliance with regulatory standards. Define data standards and establish data management processes to maintain consistency and accuracy across all data systems. Serve as a steward for data governance initiatives, promoting data ownership and accountability within business units.
2. Data Quality & Integrity Management Oversee data quality initiatives, including data profiling, cleansing, validation, and enrichment processes. Conduct regular data audits and resolve data discrepancies to ensure the reliability of data used for reporting and analytics. Work with teams to develop and maintain data quality metrics and reporting dashboards.
3. Data Security, Privacy & Regulatory Compliance Ensure adoption and compliance to data policies on data security, privacy and other regulatory requirements for data protection regulations (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA) and establish practices to safeguard data privacy and security. Manage access controls and data permissions, ensuring sensitive information is protected and accessible only to authorized personnel. Monitor and assess risks related to data security and compliance, proactively addressing potential vulnerabilities.
4. Data Strategy & Lifecycle Management Collaborate with leadership to align data management activities with business goals and strategic objectives. Manage data lifecycle processes, including data acquisition, retention, archiving, and deletion practices. Evaluate and implement data management technologies to enhance data accessibility, usability, and performance. Knowledgeable with metadata management, CRUD data lifecycle, and other data management subject areas such as Master & Reference Data Management, Data Migration & Integration Governance, Document & Content Management, etc.
5. Team Leadership & Collaboration Lead and mentor a team of data professionals, providing guidance on best practices in data management and fostering a collaborative environment. Act as a liaison across various functions, domains and teams to address data needs and resolve issues. Provide training and support to data users across the organization, enhancing data fluency and adoption of data governance principles.
6. Reporting & Analytics Support Collaborate with analytics and business intelligence teams to optimize data pipelines and enable accurate and timely reporting. Support data visualization and reporting efforts, ensuring data is prepared and validated for analytical purposes. Facilitate data discovery and usability for business stakeholders, making sure they have access to trusted data for decision-making.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Information Management, Information Science, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Experience: 5+ years of experience in data management, data governance, or a related role, with a proven track record of managing data teams; Data Management (eg CDMP) preferred. Technical Skills: Proficiency in data management tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, data catalog solutions, data quality and data lineage tools). Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and compliance requirements. Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and data architecture. Familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Qlik, Cognos) and data visualization best practices. Soft Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing data-related challenges. Leadership abilities to mentor and inspire team members and foster a data-driven culture.
