Manager of Cloud Engineering
will oversee team members delivering public/private cloud engineering; Development, security, and operations (DevSecOps); and platform engineering for the Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) network. Will set strategic direction for the cloud team and accountable technologies, will maintain an appropriate headcount, manage budgets, and have the responsibility to maintain a stable and reliable environment. Will have accountability for implementing effective governance and best practices, delivering enterprise application/development initiatives in close collaboration with the Digital Technology Services (DTS) Data & Analytics team, providing high-quality end-user support, and ensuring a secure cloud environment. Utilizes strong leadership skills and will be a hands-on leader. This position is hybrid, 1-2 visits into the Edison office per month. includes: Leadership and management of cloud architects and engineers. Provides guidance and works closely with cybersecurity team members. Accountable for the overall architecture, design, development and management of a robust, scalable, fit for use and purpose, and secure public Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)/Platform-as-a-Service(PaaS) and private cloud infrastructure. Function as a cloud subject matter expert for developing, implementing, and overseeing the cloud computing strategy. Develop long-term engineering plans and architectures taking into account trends or best practices in the space along with changing organizational needs. Assists cloud architects in mapping business requirements into cloud solutions. Works closely with the Data & Analytics team to develop and execute a DevSecOps culture. Supports the needs of software developers, data scientists, and others by providing common, reusable tools and capabilities, and interfacing to complex infrastructure. Improves developer experience and productivity by providing self-service capabilities with automated infrastructure operations. Meets or exceeds service level agreements and key service delivery/key performance indicators or metrics, and assists in identifying areas where performance can be improved through infrastructure changes. Proposes suggestions and best practices to optimize the company's cloud presence, performance, security, and cost. Accountability, management, and optimization of the company's cloud-related costs. Provides input into operational and capital budgeting exercises. Responsible for the evaluation of technical risks and development of mitigation strategies. Assists in vendor selection and management. Works closely with DTS Cybersecurity and direct reports to ensure a secure cloud environment in line with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 publication. Oversees and approves planned or unplanned maintenance, troubleshooting or root cause analysis, and problem resolution; seeks to minimize downtime or service disruptions. Educates the DTS/IT department on cloud technology and existing/developing trends in the space. Establishes regular reporting for performance, capacity management, and cost containment. Other duties and/or projects as assigned. Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications: Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, IT or related field. Minimum of 5-7 years of pertinent cloud leadership/architecture/practitioner experience leading cloud teams, designing, operating and supporting cloud solutions. Proven track record of hiring, coaching, and retaining team members. Experience in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) public cloud. Excellent understanding of cloud computing technologies and modern computing trends. Experience implementing complex cloud solutions via automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, and self-healing capabilities. Strategic thought leader for public/private hybrid and multi-cloud operations. Development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) experience transforming culture from legacy practices/cultures. Experience with platform engineering to drive speed to market with a security focus. Metrics-guided approach to drive operational efficiencies and tightly managing cloud platform spending. Ability to partner with leaders from both infrastructure and applications/data teams to deliver business requirements via fit for use and purpose cloud services. Effective communication skills (written and verbal) to properly articulate complicated cloud operations/reporting/strategy to management and other IT/business stakeholders. Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred: Minimum of 10+ years of pertinent cloud leadership/architecture/practitioner experience leading cloud teams, designing, executing and supporting cloud solutions. Experience in both Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Azure public clouds. Experience in cloud architecture within a healthcare environment. Understanding and experience with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) 800-53 and experience delivering cloud solutions within its guidelines. Container experience with Kubernetes [Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), or similar] and/or Docker. Experience working with large, complex information systems, and managing cloud operations at scale. ITIL or similar Process knowledge with a track record of evaluating and implementing operational best practices. Licenses and Certifications Preferred: Google Cloud Digital Leader, Google Professional Cloud Architect, and/or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
