Medical Assistant
Job Description
The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for performing and assisting the physician in the office.
Key responsibilities include:
Greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms
Rooming patients utilizing rooming standards and setting up exam rooms accordingly
Interviewing patients, measuring vital signs such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height, and recording information on patients' charts
Instructing patients regarding preparation for tests and procedures
Recording laboratory, x-ray, ECG results, and other pertinent medical data in patients' charts
Handling incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring the doctor sees all necessary information
Cleaning and stocking exam rooms, including monthly instrument cleaning, sterilization of instruments, and refilling of supplies as necessary
Handling patient telephone calls as directed by the Triage Nurse
Screening patient telephone calls to the physician and calling patients to relay advice, information, and instructions from the physician
Calling in prescriptions and refills to pharmacies under physician direction
Scheduling special appointments (i.e., referrals, surgeries, x-ray, and lab)
Assessing and scheduling appointments for patients
Communicating with callers, patients, physicians, other staff, and anyone they interact with during their assigned work hours in a polite, courteous, understandable manner that projects an interest in providing high-quality customer service
Abstracting medical information on patients into the EMR
