Education:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Software, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field.
Experience:
7+ years building and shipping embedded Linux distributions. Expert knowledge of C/C++, Git, and Yocto/Open Embedded. Proficient in embedded Linux configuration, development, board support packages, bootloaders, kernel, and drivers. Experience in root cause analysis and advanced troubleshooting at the kernel level. Familiarity with protocols (RS-232, SPI, I2C, CAN) and hardware-in-the-loop integration. Demonstrated experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle. Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams.

We are seeking a
Lead Embedded Linux Engineer
to join a startup in the northern Virginia area. This innovative company is developing patented communications technology that enables text messaging worldwide through direct satellite-to-mobile device communications. As a key player, you will lead the development of the company's custom Linux distribution and work with a small, agile team throughout the software development lifecycle.
Core Responsibilities
Lead the development of the custom Linux distribution. Create Board Support Packages for existing and new hardware. Maintain layers and recipes while supporting multiple CPU architectures (ARM, x86, etc.). Port the distribution to new platforms and create tooling for satellite and telecommunications software engineers. Design and implement mechanisms for OTA updates on production satellites. Serve as the Linux expert on the engineering team. Ways to Stand Out
Experience with PREEMPT_RT and software for SmallSats/CubeSats. Familiarity with CI/CD for release artifacts and Docker. Experience creating container images from Yocto artifacts.
