With offices across North Carolina, the Medical Assistant role provides professional patient care under physician supervision. A Medical Assistant prepares patients for physician encounters, facilitates lab tests as needed, and assists with patient documentation and clinical duties as directed.
This position will float between Waynesville and Asheville.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience: High school degree or equivalent required CMA Certification, or other equivalent education, certification, licensure, or related degree preferred Medical training and/or experience in casting or splinting preferred Knowledge of lab/diagnostic tests and handling paperwork Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications Knowledge of practice management and word processing software Working knowledge of managed care basics Current CPR Certification Excellent communication skills Excellent documentation skills Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Obtains and documents patient medical history including reason for visit, and any other pertinent information related to treatment prior to physician exam. Obtains X-rays as indicated by physician order prior to physician exam Prepares medical record information, including X-Ray films for physician review prior to physician exam Participates in minor procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, cast or splint and/or DME application Obtains prior authorization for procedures, equipment, and medication, if appropriate Schedules tests and off-site diagnostic procedures, when necessary, per physician's order Communicates physician referral requests to appropriate staff for processing Ensures timely communication of patient needs, concerns, test results to physicians for appropriate change in the patient's plan of care Ensures timely communication with patient regarding plan of care and response to questions or concerns Functions in the Care Coordinator role as needed Prepares and maintains supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization Maintains compliance with infection control policies and procedures Performs patient education when appropriate including oral and written education related to diagnosis, procedures, and/or medications Replenishes supplies-cleans exam room after each patient per infection control guidelines and stocks exam room at end of each day Communicates supply shortages as well as other clinical needs to Clinical Manager or designee Ensures that laboratory and other diagnostic test results are obtained and communicated to physician to ensure appropriate and timely physician intervention. Obtains all pending results prior to patients next clinic visit Ensures all documentation accurately reflects the patient encounter and plan of care Other Responsibilities:
Follows all applicable department and practice policies and procedures Maintains patient confidentiality; complies with HIPAA privacy and confidentiality guidelines established by the practice Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions Inputs patient information into practice management software Participates in mandatory staff functions as directed by Clinical manager (may include overtime) Performs other duties as required and assigned by Manger, including schedule changes and travel to office locations as assigned Maintains a pleasant and cooperative demeanor while performing all duties Maintains compliance with continuing education requirements to maintain current certifications, licensure, etc.
