Department Summary:
MITRE's Systems Security Engineering (SSE) Department has a new opportunity for a subject matter expert to join an innovative team of engineers focused on ensuring trustworthy resilient and secure solutions for sponsor or customer needs and developing security capabilities for a safer world. The right candidate will enjoy a fast-paced teaming environment working with cutting-edge technology and contribute to advancing security concepts. We are seeking a self-starter to lead efforts in building security into large engineering projects and acquisition efforts. The candidate for this position will work a wide variety of challenging systems and projects, focused on enabling resiliency, security, and cybersecurity capabilities in direct support of programs. The candidate will have opportunities to advance the science and practice of systems security engineering.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Apply the Security Design Order of Precedence (SecDOP) [NIST SP 800-160 v1r1] approach to minimize the design basis for loss potential and use architectural features to provide structure for implementing engineered security features and devices Analyze missions and systems for unacceptable loss scenarios Analyze enterprise cyber C2 and situational awareness and advise stakeholders towards improved capabilities Provide recommendations on ensuring systems are specified, designed, developed, implemented, integrated, and sustained to meet security, resiliency, safety, and assurance needs, goals, and objectives Research and develop unique, cutting-edge technical capabilities and processes for assessing, analyzing, and understanding system and technology resilience and security Analyze system requirements, software, hardware, supply chain, and integration approaches, using analysis methods to enable solutions that are As Secure As Reasonably Practical (ASARP) [NIST SP 800-160v1r1] Basic Qualifications:
Typically requires less than 1 year of related experience with a related bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of related education and work experience Familiarity conducting capability assessments, utilizing relevant, authoritative methodologies, standards, and frameworks Employing excellent writing and communication skills to develop/deliver technical artifacts, explanations, and presentations Success working in a highly collaborative environment with peers and government officials Active Secret clearance This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site Preferred Qualifications:
Strong defense mission domain knowledge Strong federal civilian domain knowledge Degree in Systems Engineering, EE, Mathematics, Physics, or other engineering or science discipline Familiarity with NIST SP 800-160 v1r1, Engineering Trustworthy Secure Systems Familiarity with defensive cyberspace operations and/or offensive cyberspace operations Knowledge of mission engineering, security resilience, reliability, and/or safety engineering methods

This requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s): Secret
Salary compensation range and midpoint: $81,000 - $101,000 - $121,000 Annual
