Job Description
The Lower Middle Market (LMM) Executive Underwriter, Team Lead is a high-impact role accountable for new revenue generation for multiline accounts for an assigned group of agents while leading core underwriting activities and production processes for team of matrixed new business underwriters. This team will have no renewal or mid-term servicing responsibilities, therefore the ability to drive and manage an effective new revenue generation process is paramount.
This position will report to the Lower Middle Market Region Lead. They will work collaboratively with regional CI leaders and distribution to achieve budgeted new business growth targets. The position requires a candidate with both strong underwriting and relationship-building competencies to interact with internal and external stakeholders at all levels. Strong collaboration and partnership with Operations will be necessary to execute the underwriting and workflow processes.
Additionally, this position has accountability for their team's audit results and compliance scores and coordinate above authority referrals. This position will be involved with LMM hiring processes within the region and will be heavily involved in training and development.
Primary responsibilities: Multiline underwriting including Package, Umbrella, Workers Compensation, Auto, and ancillary lines while ensuring adherence to our established underwriting strategy and authority, as well as following a referral process to maintain compliance and audit standards. Drive team new business production through multiple branches and distribution sources. Approve deals within assigned authority limits, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making. Manage underwriter productivity, including coaching and mentoring on desk-management skills for both generalist and specialty underwriters. Analyze production, profitability, business mix, and underwriter productivity across industries, lines, and branches and develop actions to improve results. Collaborate with partners in Field Underwriting and Distribution to develop and implement local-market tactics. Collaborate with Distribution partners on sales execution, agency management, and agency communications. Ensure adherence to audit and compliance requirements, including executing self-audits. Contribute to talent management for matrixed staff, including performance assessments and compensation planning. Build and maintain superior relationships at all levels, both internal and external. Travel as needed. Make independent decisions and recommendations to the LMM Segment Lead on the process for acquiring new business. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Given the breadth of opportunities and exposures across multiple disciplines, the preferred candidate for this role must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in commercial lines new business underwriting. In addition, the following skills are required:
Demonstrated record of teamwork, leadership and integrity in building and sustaining internal and external relationships to achieve planned outcome.
Strong organizational and time management skills. Proven ability to use technical, analytical, and underwriting decision making skills to effectively coach others. Documented success in driving business results through producer and sales management skills. Experience developing and executing business plans. Strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to ensure a clear, consistent message to customers, producers, employees, and other stakeholders. Ability to incorporate customer perspectives within business and profit strategies. Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience Minimum 5 years commercial lines underwriting experience including a strong working knowledge of multi-line and monoline product offerings.
The pay range for the role is $114,600 to $194,800. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
