Join The CrewWe are hiring a Vice President of Accounting to lead our Accounting, Treasury, and Tax teams. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and takes Away further by providing our global accounting operations with technical and operational leadership to ensure everything we report and deliver upon is accurate, efficient, and compliant with laws and regulations.
The Vice President of Accounting is a critical business leader ensuring our accounting records are accurate, securing the financial stability of the company and always mitigating risk. We’re looking for someone that can help us level up our teams, work streams, and accounting tech stack; if that’s you, you know how to come in and how to tackle accounting challenges, big and small, and are excited by that environment. The ideal candidate is one that has previous experience leading a retail/e-commerce accounting team at a scaling company, and is able to advise us on best practices as we continue to thoughtfully grow.
In addition to the below responsibilities, this position will manage 5 direct reports and mentor 5 skip-level reports across treasury, tax, AP/AR, inventory accounting, and revenue accounting.
What You’ll Do As The Vice President of AccountingYou’ll oversee company-wide accounting operations globally, ensuring compliance with GAAP, FRS 102, ASPE and IFRS
You’ll lead our internal accounting team, helping team members of all levels advance their skill set through thoughtful coaching, mentorship, and guidance
You’ll refine our monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, implementing new controls to improve our record-to-report and close accuracy
You’ll lead our audits, liaising with internal teams and external auditors to ensure we are always in compliance and mitigating business/financial risk
You’ll recommend tax strategies aligned with the company’s goals, ensuring efficient tax planning and compliance
You’ll oversee federal, state, and international tax filings ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations
You’ll work closely with and build strong working relationships with key cross functional stakeholders, including FP&A, IT/Supply Chain Technology, People Operations/Payroll, and external consultants/auditors
You’ll recommend new tools to help streamline work streams, leading software selection and implementation timelines cross-functionally to ensure work continuity and positive reception
You have experience managing global accounting teams, spanning across different disciplines; experience working with, and/or managing inventory accounting is required in order to be considered
You have active CPA licensure, and are passionate about growing not only your accounting leadership career, but also the accounting practices at a start-up
You have experience working with accounting and inventory softwares; experience with ERP implementations from an accounting perspective is required in order to be considered
You have advanced business acumen, and possess a desire to continuously improve processes and deploy best practices
You are a problem solver and relationship builder, and have proven experience uniting stakeholders across the same goals
You’re creative and innovative; you love to build great new things that are fresh and unique while staying on brand

Our total rewards are inclusive of both compensation and benefits. What we offer within a salary range is dependent on a number of factors, including scope and qualifications for the role, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to other Away employees. Salary and benefit offerings are reviewed during phone screenings to ensure alignment.
Compensation Range: $220,000.00 - $240,000.00 annually
This role is eligible to participate in Away’s Annual Company Performance Incentive Bonus Plan, the terms of which are determined at the discretion of the company
Equity Grant: commensurate with level determined at the discretion of the company

This is a remote role that visits our Soho, NYC office when required by the hiring manager. Regardless of candidate location, the working hours are 9am-6pm ET to ensure continuity with our business operations.
