Position Summary: The Emergency Room (ER) Nurse is a vital member of the healthcare team, providing expert care to patients in the emergency department. Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, the ER Nurse assesses, triages, and treats patients with diverse medical conditions, injuries, and emergencies. This role requires strong clinical skills, critical thinking abilities, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient assessment and triage: Conduct rapid assessments of patients presenting to the emergency department, prioritizing care based on acuity and severity of symptoms. Perform initial screenings, gather pertinent medical history, and assess vital signs.
- Emergency interventions: Initiate and perform emergency interventions and procedures as needed, including resuscitation, airway management, cardiac monitoring, and administration of medications.
- Collaborative care: Work collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients in the emergency department.
- Patient advocacy: Advocate for patients' needs, preferences, and rights throughout their emergency department stay. Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment options, and discharge instructions.
- Emergency response: Respond rapidly to emergent situations, including trauma activations, cardiac arrests, and medical emergencies. Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
- Documentation and charting: Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Complete required documentation in a timely manner.
- Medication administration: Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and blood products as prescribed by healthcare providers. Ensure accurate medication administration and documentation according to hospital policies and procedures.
- Patient safety and infection control: Adhere to infection control protocols and safety standards to minimize the risk of transmission of infectious diseases and ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Collaborative communication: Communicate effectively with members of the healthcare team, including physicians, ancillary staff, and other nurses, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients.
- Continuous learning and professional development: Stay updated on current evidence-based practices, guidelines, and protocols related to emergency nursing. Participate in ongoing education, training, and professional development activities.
- Participation in quality improvement initiatives and evaluation processes related to patient care is expected.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Certification in emergency nursing (e.g., Certified Emergency Nurse, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in acute care nursing
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure
- Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care in the emergency department
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
- Two to five years of diversified, progressive experience in acute care and/or other settings within the continuum of care.
- Utilization review of discharge planning experience preferred
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred

- Active Registered Nurse Licensure
- American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- American Heart Association Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC); preferred
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC); preferred
