PRIMARY FUNCTION: Coordinates and assess patient flow via the same day/walk-in appointment process. Supervises back office staff, back office day to day activities, and clinical compliance. Responsible for Nursing medications, Immunizations, Emergency medication and equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- Floor Supervision in collaboration with LVN:
- Coordinates patient flow and same day appointments and assesses patients by obtaining detailed information.
- Reviews daily appointment schedule along with other nursing staff for preparation of visits (ex: making sure Diabetic patients have Hgb A1c test, foot exam, etc and are followed up).
- Supervises LVNs
- Maintains the back office staffing assignments on a weekly basis including break and rest period assignments.
- Delegates to and follows up with Medical Assistants and Licensed Vocational Nurses to accomplish smooth and efficient patient flow through clinic.
- Performs insulin teaching and education for newly diagnosed diabetic patients as directed by clinicians.
- Quality Patient Care
- Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) activities related to the dispensary.
- Maintains proper and accurate documentation and logs.
- Assists in providing or obtaining translation services as needed.
- Clinical Duties
- Responsible for maintenance of Emergency medications and equipment (AED/EKIT/Oxygen tanks, etc.)
- Responsible for overseeing maintenance of Nursing medications
- Responsible for overseeing maintenance of Immunizations
- As directed by providers, obtains specimens from patients following safety standards and documents according to TCC policy.
- Prepares specimen samples for laboratory pick-up.
- Performs simple assays and POCT under the direction of providers and documents according to TCC policy.
- POCT: Blood Glucose, Hemoglobin, Blood Lead test, Hgb A1c, Urine test, Urine pregnancy test, and urine microalbumin.
- Administers inoculations, nebulizer treatments, and simple catherizations under the supervision of providers and documents according to TCC policy.
- Assures lab area cleanliness and ensures containment of hazardous waste.
- Document all specimen collected from and immunizations given to patients.
- Performs EKG, spirometry, peak flow measurement, and CHDP-required services (i.e. audiometric, vision screening, and growth measurements) as ordered by providers and documents according to TCC policy.
- Retrieves laboratory results from printer, monitors and cross references with orders, and disseminates labs to providers for review.
- Ensures that laboratory results are in patient’s medical record before appointment and contacts laboratory if results are not in the chart.
- Responsible for facilitating (along with directive from provider(s)) clinical emergencies (911) of patients and staff.
- Full participation for all clinical audits along with clinic manager and administrations.
- Other
- Attends TCC staff meeting, clinic staff meeting, department meetings, and other meetings as assigned by Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager or Clinic Manager.
- Attends training as assigned by Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager or Clinic Manager.
- Communicate training needs to Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager or Clinic Manager.
- Participates in agency-wide events as mandated by TCC policy.
- Obtains appropriate certificates/trainings relevant to job duties, including Diabetes educator.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- Current RN license to work in the state of California issued by the Board of Registered Nursing.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- BCLS, ALS, PALS certification preferred.
- Certified Diabetes Educator, CDE preferred
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, work efficiently and accurately with minimum supervision.
- Legal authorization to work in the US.
