Job Description
MAIN FUNCTION: Assists in planning, evaluating, reporting and directing the total nursing needs to maintain the high quality of care in the Home.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for nursing service functions in absence of nursing service administrative personnel.
May assume responsibility for security of buildings.
Assists the charge nurses and staff in the interpretation of nursing home philosophy and objectives, policies and procedures of the nursing service department.
Assists the charge nurses in assessing the nursing needs of the patients and delivery of care through nursing care plans and records and adherence to physician orders for medication and treatments.
Provides for effective distribution of personnel on the nursing units.
Evaluates nursing care provided and makes recommendations.
Assists with orientation and in-service education programs.
Assists nursing staff as necessary.
Evaluates personnel on responsible shift.
Prepares bi-weekly staffing schedule for shift.
Reports unusual findings and nursing unit needs to Director of Nursing or Assistant Director of Nursing.
Encourages economy in use of supplies, utilities and equipment.
Conducts staff meeting on nursing units as necessary.
Develop skills in interpersonal relationships.
Participates in interdepartment and supervisor meetings.
Responsible for computer data entry of patient progress notes admission assessments, general observations, behavioral notes etc., ADL completion.
Responsible for reviewing facility Quality Indicator Report with staff to maintain standard of care.
Will assess employees injuries or illnesses and will assist employees in filing incident report and will be responsible for completing an Accident/Incident Investigation report form.
Will assess patient condition post incident/accident after notification from unit charge nurse of event, will document findings in patient electronic medical record and incident/accident investigation form.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered Professional nurse currently licensed to practice in New York State. Demonstrated competence as a nursing practitioner. Supervisory experience and a general knowledge of management techniques. Associates Degree required. At least 1 year of experience in LTC, supervisory experience preferred.
CONTACTS: On a daily basis, professional and non-professional personnel, residents/patients, interdepartmental personnel and the public in general.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Considerable walking, standing, lifting, little sitting, writing, and involving finger dexterity.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Responsible for accurate analysis of the effect of solutions. Multiple decisions must be carefully made.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Continuous contact with nursing units with accompanying sights and odors. Some normal office contacts.
HAZARDS: Exposure to infections.
SAFETY: Accountable for implementing assigned responsibilities and activities to attain safety goals and objectives by complying with applicable rules and regulations and performing tasks and supervision others in performing tasks in a safe manner.
