Job Title: ASC Endo Circulator RN

Reports to: Charge Nurse

Job Summary: Provides and customizes nursing care to the patient during the intraoperative phase. Sets up the operating room, stocks the room, and oversees the room during all surgeries. Surgery Center experience preferred. Looking for an experienced endoscopy circulator who can work in a fast paced environment.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Pre-ops first patient of the day
  • Initiates documented procedure verification process
  • Identifies patient with 2 identifiers, verbally and compared to armband and medical record
  • Verifies consent
  • Obtains pregnancy waiver signature or performs urine pregnancy test when indicated
  • Obtains thorough medical history and assesses patient
  • Notifies physician / anesthesia of any medical conditions with potential for adverse outcome
  • Obtains / verifies comprehensive medication list
  • Verifies allergies
  • Initiates intravenous line
  • Provides patient education
  • Circulates cases
  • Attaches patient to monitors and oxygen and obtains the initial blood pressure and vital signs
  • Ensures time-out process is conducted
  • Ensures monitoring appropriate to level of sedation, anesthesia or local anesthetic
  • Performs timely assessment and intervention
  • Labels and records specimens; completes requisition forms
  • Offers support to anesthesia provider, as needed
  • Provides conscious sedation upon physician order
  • Provides thorough post-procedure report to PACU nurse
  • Documents all assessments and care provided in the medical record
  • Ensures all entries are legible, timely and concise
  • Authenticates all entries
  • Conducts patient post-procedure phone calls
  • Follows up on pertinent patient information received
  • Notifies physician as appropriate
  • Performs 12 Lead EKG upon physician order
  • Follows universal precautions
  • Completes occurrence reports when indicated within shift of occurrence
  • Retrieves and reviews documents from Pentax dictation system, Intergy and Intergy iEHR, as necessary
  • Notes and follows through with physician orders
  • Manages medication administration according to physician order
  • Verification of "5 Rights"
  • Administers and documents
  • Monitors for adverse reactions
  • Accounts for narcotics
  • Helps maintain supply and medication inventory, reviews expiration dates and participates in reordering process
  • Adheres to all FMC and unit policies and procedures
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and CQI teams
  • Maintains unit training requirements
  • Annual Risk Management Education
  • Annual OSHA training
  • Competencies, as required
  • BLS and ACLS

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Pre-ops, recovers and discharges patients according to assignment and as requested.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Normal physical ability; able to sit and stand for long periods
  • Normal concentration and normal complexity of decision making
  • High level verbal and written communication skills
  • Above average ability to manage multiple asks simultaneously

Occupational Exposure:

  • High risk exposure to bloodborne pathogens and chemical hazards.

Job Qualifications:

  • Current active Florida RN license
  • Current BLS
  • Current ACLS
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Endoscopy experience a plus
