Position Summary:

The Nurse Manager has the responsibility and accountability for providing leadership and the direct supervision of the clinical staff as well as coordinating all the clinical operations of the health center such as patient care, quality management, risk management, compliance, adherence to Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC) policy and procedures, staff support, and clinical coordination with other departments.


Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates the daily operations of the medical center including leadership for clinical, administrative, dental, pharmacy, referral, and other staff.
  • Monitor clinical support schedules and patient flow throughout clinic.
  • Establish clear goals and expectations for clinical support staff.
  • Assists providers in delivering quality patient care; assists in the performance of nursing procedures, as needed.
  • Ensures provider and staff task buckets are being addressed accurately and timely.
  • Educates all staff on policy changes, insurance updates, process alterations.
  • Utilizes critical thinking, conflict management, team building, communication, staff development and appropriate delegation of tasks to manage the health center effectively.
  • Determines and utilizes effective communication methods to disseminate information to center staff in a timely manner.
  • Nurse manager must report staffing shortages to direct supervisor and alternate nurse managers to proactively seek clinical coverage to enhance the efficiency of daily operations
  • In the absence of adequate staffing, the nurse manager is expected to assume and perform the responsibilities and duties of direct clinical staff as needed
  • Leads site meetings and is responsible for keeping up-to-date and accurate meeting minutes.
  • Functions as a liaison with other departments conducts frequent huddles/agenda driven meetings with clinical staff and providers as needed.
  • Communicate center issues in a timely fashion to leadership for immediate follow-up.
  • Provides timely follow up on patient concerns as they relate to center operations.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment throughout the health center.
  • Prepares daily to exemplify the attention and organization of the center.
  • Completes weekly facility checklist and addresses any emergent issues.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the operations and routine maintenance of all clinical equipment, including new equipment; provide training to clinical staff on the safe and proper use of clinical equipment. Ensures all medical equipment are calibrated and in proper working condition.
  • Supervises and develops all clinical staff in the health center while providing oversight to non-clinical staff in other departments at the center.
  • Maintains clinical staff schedule and staffing levels in accordance with health center policy and communicates issues to leadership through the staffing reports or urgent alerts.
  • Maintains accurate time sheets for all clinical staff and hold all staff accountable for tardiness or performance issues.
  • Conducts corrective action for staff including performance improvement plans, notes to file, verbal and written warnings.
  • Completes 90-days and annual employee evaluations. Works with leadership and HR to ensure clinical staff certifications and licenses are kept up to date per policy.
  • Empower staff to achieve their best professionally and guide them through their creative problem-solving while promoting a cohesive care team environment.
  • Encourage internal and external continuing education opportunities for clinical staff.
  • Engage staff and relate the organizational and center quality measure goals.
  • Reviews monthly quality and productivity reports with staff to identify opportunities for improvement and corrective actions.
  • Completes monthly chart audits and ensuring compliance and communicates issues identified to the clinical staff and leadership.
  • Oversees and improves clinical processes assuring use of evidence-based practice per policy and according to AAAHC guidelines.
  • Manages the health center budget by monitoring inventory control processes using a cost-effective approach while ensuring health center is adequately stocked with all necessary supplies. Appropriately requests authorization for purchases from supervisor and or clinical leadership.
  • Participates in self-improvement activities in training webinars assigned to further promote leadership skills to remain current with all federal state and regulatory bodies such as AAAHC, OSHA, NCQA and CMS.
  • Monitor center specific programs such as Vaccines for Children (VFC) to ensure compliance. Identifies and participates in special or quality projects and develop standards and competency related to implementation. Participates in community events and other marketing/promotional activities for the health centers.
  • VFC -Serve as a subject matter expert for the TFHC Vaccine for Children program.
  • Documenting annual vaccine management training for designated staff
  • Ensures all staff are trained on routine and emergency vaccine management procedures.
  • Maintains staff training records.
  • Conduct all Compliance Visit and Reviews with VFC announced and unannounced.
  • Ensure that all VFC-related documents are available for VFC Compliance Reviews or VFC unannounced Compliance Reviews.
  • Reviews and updates the Vaccine Management Plan as needed
  • Assist in the constant management of VFC compliance inside of FL shots including but not limited to eliminating duplicating charts and inactivating charts no longer assigned to TFHC.
  • Maintain accurate vaccination site and personnel inside of the FL shots system.


General Duties:

  • Model and support the Mission, Vision, and Values of TFHC
  • Completes all personnel action forms for staff, as described in the Personnel Policies and Procedures
  • Maintains accurate time sheets for all personnel
  • Fully knowledgeable of contents of the Center’s Policies and Procedures Manual as they relate to Operations and Clinical; implements and upholds all policies and procedures
  • Adheres to all safety, HIPPA and OSHA protocols
  • Responsible for all Vaccines for Children (VFC) activities, including ordering, inventory, and overall compliance with the program
  • Responsible for maintaining proper supply inventories; ordering supplies, as needed
  • Implement infection control standards, as directed
  • Other duties as assigned


Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledgeable of all current Tampa Family Health Centers policies and procedures
  • Experience in primary health care nursing or in public health nursing and two (2) years’ experience as a supervisor preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to navigate and enter data into an electronic health record
  • Exceptional ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment


Education, Certification, Training and License:

  • A graduate of an accredited nursing school
  • Have a current Florida license as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Current BLS Certification
