Position Summary
The Clinical Nurse Manager is responsible for leading and managing the clinical operations of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role involves overseeing nursing care delivery from admission to discharge, ensuring quality patient outcomes, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective resource management. The Clinical Nurse Manager also plays a key role in infection control, staff development, and acts as the administrator in their absence.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership, motivation, coaching, and support to foster and strengthen the growth and development of a high-performing clinical team.
- Plan, implement, deliver, and evaluate patient care services and the Center's goals/objectives, striving to exceed performance measurements set annually by administration.
- Direct and support efforts to achieve and revise staffing standards, including recruitment, retention, and human resource utilization.
- Define and communicate a clear, compelling vision that aligns with the Surgery Center's mission and vision.
- Lead change initiatives through effective communication, creating buy-in and understanding within the team.
- Supervise the smooth functioning of the OR and Pre-op/PACU departments, ensuring maximum productivity and quality of patient care.
- Assess, plan, evaluate, and ensure the implementation of patient care from admission to discharge, according to facility policy and procedure.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing care in relation to established standards and facilitate quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, procedures, systems, roles, and programs to improve patient care services.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, Joint Commission standards, HIPAA regulations, state and federal regulations, and all facility policies and procedures.
- Direct the facilities preparation for licensure and accreditation reviews, ensuring all standards are met.
- Promote multi-disciplinary collaboration to ensure a coordinated approach to healthcare.
- Assists Administrator in developing, capital, and labor budgets in alignment with organizational goals.
- Direct and participate in the Quality Committee to facilitate the improvement of patient care.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and interpersonal relationships with physicians, associates, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in administrative meetings, providing regular updates on clinical operations, quality improvement, and staff development.
- Protect company assets and ensure the proper care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Define educational needs and actively support staff development activities.
- Counsel team members and resolve conflicts. Review and approve personnel actions.
- Evaluate and discuss grievances with Risk Management.
- Set goals and evaluate progress annually for all clinical teammates.
- Develop and direct organizational quality assurance and quality improvement plans.
- Assess delivery of care and patient outcomes through rounds, committees, quality assessment, performance improvement activities, and patient surveys.
- Assists physician and anesthesia personnel as needed.
- Completes all teammate/patient event and variance documentation in a thorough and timely manner.
- Maintains attendance according to guidelines and policy established by the facility.
- Provides notification for unscheduled absences or tardiness according to departmental procedures.
- Maintains certification requirements and submits required certifications to facility management.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Other Related Functions
- Employee Health Nurse- responsible for monitoring the health status of the team members regarding initial employment and annually.
- Education Nurse-oversight of continuing education for all Team members.
- Pharmacy Nurse-responsible for all aspects of medication management and safety in the facility in conjunction with the Pharmacy consultant.
- Infection Control Nurse-responsible for oversight of the facility infection control program and ensuring that the facility remains compliant with nationally recognized standards.
Education/Training
- Registered Nurse for five (5) plus years required.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or management required.
- Master’s degree in business or nursing is highly desirable.
- OR Circulator experience of three (3) plus years required.
- Pre & Post Operative of three (3) plus years is desirable.
Licensure/Certification
- Registered Nurse (RN) License in Florida
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required based on ASC patient minimum age.
Experience
- Need two (2) plus years of experience in a Leadership role within a Multi-Specialty Ambulatory Surgery Center or Outpatient facility.
- Proficiency in clinical service management and materials/inventory management.
- Building strong relationships with Physicians.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
