Job Description
The Welding Engineer position is based out of Greenup, IL and will report to the local Quality Manager. This position will work closely with many different departments, both local and corporate, to conduct training and implement solutions related to welding and weld inspection at the factory level.
** For new graduates or candidates with less than 5 years' experience, we are going to have these individuals spend the first year of employment working out of the Corporate Headquarters in Taneytown, MD. The goal is to train and develop these individuals alongside the Corporate Welding Engineers within the Global Manufacturing Engineering and Corporate Quality Teams before having them relocate to a satellite facility.
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- Proficient in GMAW & GTAW welding.
- No qualification test required but must be able to lead hands on demonstrations.
- Knowledge of Non-Destructive Testing and Destructive Testing practices.
- Ability to obtain CWI within 18 month of start date.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes (e.g., ASME, AWS, ASNT).
- Problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Skills (Desirable)
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- ASNT Level II or higher in any of the following disciplines: VT, PT, LT, and/ or ET.
Essential Functions (Provide a bullet list of 7 to 10 key responsibilities)
- Quality Control:
- Conduct hands-on and classroom based weld training, for all welding personnel, based on the requirements of their position.
- Conduct hands on and classroom based NDE training for all inspection and welding personnel.
- Manage the WPQ, Workmanship, and Continuity Log process for the local facility.
- Coordinate with Corporate Quality Welding Engineers to interpret technical reporting and communicate findings to the local team.
- Process Optimization:
- Review latest welding related quality data to identify opportunities for improvement and training.
- Work with local production teams to identify potential areas for improvement and then coordinate with corporate engineering resources for testing and development.
- Visit suppliers, vendors, trade shows, etc. to evaluate new Welding or NDE related tools, equipment, and processes.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Commitment to all safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable fabrication and inspection codes, standards, and procedures.
- Technical Reporting:
- Ability to generate technical documents (reports, procedures, instructions, etc.) for both production and engineering teams.
