Job Description
1. JOB TITLE: Mailroom Supervisor
DEPARTMENT: Production
REPORTS TO: Press Supervisor
REVISION DATE: 10/24
2. SCHEDULE
This position is 37.5 hours per week. May be required to work overtime.
3. OVERVIEW OF JOB RESPONSIBILTIIES
This position oversees all operations within the mailroom. Key responsibilities include hiring, training, and supervising mailroom staff, as well as scheduling and assigning tasks to ensure efficient workflow and minimize overtime. The role involves coordinating pre-runs, managing the use and maintenance scheduling of mailroom equipment, and overseeing the storage and insertion of preprints, along with maintaining receiving documentation.
Additionally, this position is responsible for managing supply inventory, ensuring the dock area is free of obstructions, and maintaining clean and organized workspaces. The role also entails unloading, storing, and staging newsprint, maintaining inventory, performing basic forklift maintenance, handling recycling duties, and operating bindery equipment. A crucial part of this position is training staff in safety practices and fostering a strong sense of pride and teamwork within the department.
4. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
At least 6 months newspaper mailroom/packaging experience with some mechanical experience. Ability to communicate in English, both written and orally. At least 1 year supervisory experience.
5. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
At least 1.5 years experience including at least 6 months in a newspaper mailroom and 1 year supervisory experience, current certification in use of forklifts, operable vehicle, valid Washington drivers license and proof of auto insurance.
6. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -

o Coordination with other departments and publications to create a smooth workflow.
Interact successfully with others in a business setting.
Work collaboratively in a team environment to meet customer needs.
Work successfully with others in a busy, deadline driven environment.
Maintain regular attendance.
Tolerance for extended periods of standing and/or sitting
Ability to lift up to 60 pounds.
Push or pull 850 pounds (with leverage)
Climb, stoop, stand, kneel and crawl to access and work in irregular spaces on and around industrial equipment
Work for prolonged periods with inks and other chemicals
Ability to adapt to change, address potential problems and suggest possible solutions
Accept written and verbal direction from supervisors
Work a variable schedule.
Support Press Supervisor in all activities
