Position Summary

The Director of Sports, Training, and Competition oversees all aspects of sports programming in Louisiana. This role is crucial in ensuring quality competitions, athlete development, and volunteer engagement.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program Management: Oversee day-to-day sports operations, ensuring compliance with Special Olympics International and Louisiana policies.
  • Competition Coordination: Coordinate state, regional, national, and international competitions, including athlete and coach registration.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Recruit, train, and support volunteers to fulfill various roles in sports.
  • Athlete Development: Promote athlete participation in sports and community activities, including Young Athletes programs.
  • Coach Development: Coordinate ongoing coach education virtually and in-person, providing top-level communication at all times.
  • Resource Management: Manage sports equipment, facilities, and budgets.
  • Event Management: Lead event planning and execution, including securing venues, officials, and medical personnel.
  • Data Management: Utilize athlete and coach databases to manage data, and track participation and performance.
  • Administrative Tasks: Handle administrative duties such as contract management, invoice processing, and report generation.

 

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (in Sports Management/Administration preferred)
  • 5+ years of sports competition experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Experience managing diverse teams and volunteers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and sports database software
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently

Physical Requirements

  • Sedentary work, with occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
