Sports Field Maintenance Crew

The City of Peoria Parks and Recreation Department is seeking interested individuals to fill various field maintenance positions with our Neighborhood Parks team, Community Parks team and/or Peoria Sports Complex (home of the Seattle Mariners & San Diego Padres). Positions range in required experience levels from entry-level to skilled. Depending on a candidate's qualifications and experience level, individuals in this position will perform a variety of tasks related to the preparation of professional baseball fields and turf maintenance.

Based on a candidate's experience level, specific tasks may include:
  • Preparing and maintaining professional baseball fields, and related facilities and amenities utilizing a variety of hand and power tools, includes edgers and weed eaters.
  • Assisting with reconditioning of fields, including mounds, home plates, bases passes, infield edges, etc.
  • Painting of field, foul lines and logos.
  • Providing general maintenance, including raking leaves, cleaning dugouts and litter control.
  • Assisting with the application of drying materials.
  • Facilitating the infield tarp pulling during inclement weather.
  • Facility cleaning.

The hiring rate for this position is: $17.12 per hour.

The ideal candidate will be someone who:
  • Has a basic understanding of common field maintenance methods, practices, and use of written forms and routines of a basic nature.
  • Is comfortable occasionally communicating with facility users and team personnel.
  • Is interested in a flexible, part-time schedule with an estimated 20-25 hours per week.
  • Is open to schedules that vary depending on assignment and could include nights and weekends.
  • Is a safety conscious, punctual team player with a high work ethic.
  • Is comfortable and able to execute assigned essential functions in high-traffic public use areas.
  • Is self-motivated and able to work both individually and with a team.
  • Understands that while field and turf maintenance will be the primary focus, there will be times where it is necessary to act cross-functionally when the Division's workload demands.
