POSITION SUMMARY
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Sports Program Lead is primarily responsible for the delivery, instruction, and assisting with supervision of high-quality YMCA youth sports program. Support children in the program and implements program curriculum focused on holistic child development. Provides a quality experience to children that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
AGE: 21 years or older
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent.

RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Kinesiology, Physical Education, or Coaching background preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year leading, teaching, and/or working with grades K-5. Ability to communicate effectively and relate to youth, including diverse groups of individuals.
  • Knowledge of fundamental sports and age-appropriate motor development skills and rules pertaining to various sports such as, but not limited to, baseball, basketball, football, gymnastics and soccer.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Strong character values (respect, responsibility, honesty, caring); strong communication skills; emotional maturity.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: Current approved CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications for Adult, Infant, and Child. Completion of compliance trainings prior to first day in program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supervises program activities to meet YMCA objectives and expands youth sports program relations within the community.
  2. Works with Youth Sports Program Staff members to ensure appropriate staffing levels and excellent program quality.
  3. Opens and supervises gymnasiums, athletic fields, and other sports facilities. Transports and sets up equipment for games and practices.
  4. Develops and facilitates team practice and games with all program staff and participants; assists sports officials when necessary.
  5. May assist with distribution of team uniforms, awards and photographs.
  6. Assist with sports clinics and other special events.
  7. Assists in the marketing and distribution of youth sports program information.
  8. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  9. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  10. Maintain and improve program safety records that meet or exceed Association standards.
  11. Develop good rapport with program participants and families.
  12. Work with Regional Program Director in creation of new adult and youth sports programs based on member needs and target markets.
  13. Assist Regional Program Director with recruiting volunteer coaches and assist with the application process.
  14. Assist with program registration process.
  15. Create team rosters, schedules and attendance sheets for all programs.
  16. Abide by risk and safety policies and procedures to ensure personal as well as participant safety.
    1. Maintain appropriate staff-to-participant ratios.
    2. Inspect all areas for safety prior to use; notify supervisor or proper staff personnel when an issue is identified immediately.
    3. Physical contact between an adult (i.e., parent or instructor) and child (i.e., participant/member) should be consistent with the appropriate instruction, safety, and skill progression.
  17. Actively supports the YMCA is committed to inclusion and compliance with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) where appropriate.
  18. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards, maintains program and equipment, and maintains required program records in accordance with YMCA expectations.
  19. Report problems, breakdowns in equipment, infringement on policies and unusual situations to appropriate supervisor/director.
  20. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical. Restroom usage, and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  21. Follows reporting procedures and proactively responds to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.
  22. Understands and complies with current federal, state, local regulations, and YMCA policies and procedures at all time.
  23. Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  24. Uphold YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting and risk management.
  25. Demonstrate the Six Pillars of Character (Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Fairness) as well as the YMCA Core Values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility in all dealings with members, guests, volunteers and fellow staff.

  27. All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • You must have the physical, visual, and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  • Job is performed in indoor as well as outdoor environments throughout the year.
  • Ability to stand long period of time and lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
