Job Description
Synergy Health Partners is looking for a Physical Therapy Assistant to work in its Livonia, MI PT clinic. This is a full-time position, scheduled weekdays.
Under the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for the implementation of the patient’s treatment plan using accepted and established forms of therapeutic exercise and modalities as well as maintain accurate written reports. The Physical Therapy Assistant will participate in continuing education programs as well as in community education. The Physical Therapy Assistant will act as a clinical instructor for PTA students. Individual will participate in continuous quality improvement efforts of the department and organization. Consults with physician and supervising therapist regarding the patient’s treatment, reassessment, and discharge recommendations on a regular basis.
Job Duties:
- After the initial patient evaluation and assessment by the physical therapist, collaborates with the physical therapist in establishing the functional goals and development of the treatment program.
- Provides prescribed and appropriate treatment, adhering to precautions, indications, and contraindications with ongoing monitoring. Applies the latest research related to restoring function, reducing symptoms, and preventing injury. Modifies care in direct response to patient’s tolerance and progress.
- Complete the objective measurements for interim documentation to assist the physical therapist with the assessment of the patient’s progress towards discharge and the direction of discharge planning. Assists with discharge planning, consulting with evaluating physical therapist as needed; with recommendations for follow up therapy and/or equipment needs and instructing patient and/or family in home programs as needed. Responsible for timely completion and review of quarterly documentation peer reviews.
- Delegates tasks to PT-OT technicians and assumes responsibility and supervision for these tasks.
- Provides ongoing communication/education with the patient and family, regarding the patient’s status, treatment/home program and progress towards goals.
- Works as a team player and utilizes leadership skills for problem resolution while maintaining a positive work environment.
- Confers with referring and consulting physicians, nursing personnel and other health professionals regarding patient's progress and status and ongoing recommendations.
- Maintains the clinical expertise of the PTA through continuing education.
- Assists with and participates in the student clinical education program for physical therapy assistant studies by assisting with student training when requested and/or participating as a clinical instructor to a student after sufficient clinical experience is obtained.
- Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide the care appropriate to the age of the patient served in their unit, including but not limited to principles of growth and development, psychological needs, physiological needs, etc. Such care should be provided as described in the unit's department policy and procedure manual.
- May rotate to other facilities to meet productivity/patient care and other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements:
- Licensed as Physical Therapist Assistant in the state of Michigan.
- Knowledge of general physical therapy principles and practical skills
- Good understanding of procedure and practices in the medical industry
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- The ability to provide exceptional customer service
- The ability to be a team player
- Excellent computer skills including but not limited to work, excel and email
