CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled work in the installation and repair of water mains, storm and sanitary sewers, catch basins, manholes, water lines; repairs, resurfaces and patches roads, bridges and alleys; may operate equipment in the performance of assigned tasks; may act as lead worker on certain assignments in directing the activities of other workers.

Repairs, replaces and patches street surfaces, roads, bridges and alleys; installs and repairs water mains, hydrants, storm and sanitary sewers, catch basins and manholes and water services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a high school diploma or a GED and one year experience in construction, public works maintenance and repair or a related field.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Requires possession of a valid Illinois Class A CDL Driver's License within 6 months of start date. City-sponsored training.

1) Vacation - 1 to 6 years of service - 2 weeks
7 to 13 years of service - 3 weeks
14 to 21 years of service - 4 weeks
22 or more years of service - 5 weeks
2) Sick Leave Annual accrual of (.5) sick day per month.*
3) Life Insurance - $70,000 term group life insurance policy.
4) Holidays - New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve.
5) Personal Days - Four (4) personal days shall be provided per year.
6) Medical Insurance* - Comprehensive major medical insurance program for employee and dependents with employee option to continue coverage upon separation from employment according to one of the available coverage options. City will pay 80% of the specified premium for HMO coverage selected (i.e., single, single plus one, or family) and 80% of the specified premium for PPO coverage selected (i.e., single, single plus one, or family) the employee will pay via payroll deduction the remaining amount of the specified premium. Employees who have alternative health insurance coverage may elect to discontinue to participate in the City's health insurance plan pursuant to the City's health insurance opt out program. The opt out benefit to such employees shall be in the annual amount of $3,000 prorated based upon employment with the city during the applicable plan year and shall be paid to a Health Reimbursement Account.

- Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of a municipal water and sewer system, particularly water lines, sewer mains, fire hydrants, manholes and related facilities
- Working knowledge of City streets and locations with understanding of construction and the ability to determine the location of water and sewer mains, manholes, catch basins, valves and -fire hydrants; elementary knowledge of mechanics for the- operation; repair and maintenance of machinery, equipment and tools
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions connected with street, sewer and water maintenance or repair practices
- Ability to operate vehicles and equipment proficiently
- Ability to use standard maintenance equipment
- Manual dexterity necessary to operate, maintain and repair essential equipment and tools
- Ability to provide guidance and direction to subordinate maintenance personnel
- Ability to complete arduous tasks and work outdoors during inclement weather conditions
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, fellow workers and the general public.
