Qualifications:
- Reliable – Must show up on time daily ready to work
- Comfortable with heights and familiar with what to expect on a construction site
- Willingness to learn, sweat, work hard, and have mechanical aptitude
- Steel Toe Boots and familiarity with basic hand tools – let them provide examples of projects they have done
Day to day duties:
- Contractors will be required to work off blue prints, utilize hand and power tools to assemble and mount trays, server racks/closets, and also pulling fiberoptic cable from point a to point b.
- Drop cable down a wall using fish tape or other method. Route cable. Perform pre-termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables and determine length, slack and label cables. Suspend and support cable correctly: Cable tray, J-hook, D-rings, Bridal rings, Trapez
- Build out server rows (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required.
- Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.
- Will terminate low-voltage devices. All contractors will be trained on all of this.
- OSP – outside guys that have no problem with the heat. Crews will be outside digging at times but mostly pulling cable underground and into the data center.
- Build- Out Team – This team is putting together the actual racks and cable trays that they servers and cables sit on. They will also install the rack and cable trays into the data center.
- ISP – can range from just hanging cables trays/building server cabinets to potentially doing networking support or even break/fix repairs if skilled enough. Usually takes a while to get on these teams
- Most people start out on the OSP or Build- Out team. The first week is the toughest week for anyone. If they make it a week and don’t have issues, then they usually are taken under a leads wing and things go well for them.
- Pulling of the cable is extremely physical and exhausting on the body. There is a ton of cable to be pulled as multiple buildings and projects are going at one time
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Any type of low voltage, cable, or fiber experience is a plus
- Data Center Experience is a plus
