Actual starting pay will vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Cash Bonus Target: 12.5%
Eligible for an Annual Discretionary Restricted Stock Units Bonus Target: 12.5%
These discretionary target bonuses may be awarded semi-annually based upon your achievement of performance goals and targets.
About This Job
The VP Independent Credit Review Team Leader will report directly to the ERM - SVP. This role involves leading a team in various credit risk review engagements and continuous monitoring activities associated with a strong independent commercial credit review and/or similar credit risk management function. The VP Independent Credit Review Team Leader has a proven track record in a Commercial Credit Review management role or similar leadership position and has demonstrated exceptional delivery results within a demanding environment. Qualified personnel should be knowledgeable in both sound lending practices and the bank’s lending guidelines for the types of loans offered by the Bank. Qualified credit risk review personnel possess knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and supervisory guidance. Must have significant post origination portfolio review and/or pre-origination underwriting in the commercial credit space as well as experience with underwriting special purpose entities and fund relationships for commercial real estate and commercial non-real estate.
- Serve as the departmental subject matter expert in credit risk in one of more of the segments within the commercial portfolios and have general knowledge of lending support area practices impact on credit risk within the financial services industry.
- Develop and maintain working relationships with executive bank management, regulators, segment leadership as well as with the broader Credit Review team to execute review responsibilities effectively and efficiently.
- Contribute to the development and execution of Credit Review’s annual and strategic plans.
- Participate in the monitoring of credit-related risk throughout the Bank.
- Provide technical guidance for integrated CR engagements.
- As part of the respective credit risk focus area, develop and manage a credit review program which assesses the management framework in selecting, underwriting, and administering the direct and indirect credit risk inherent in products/services and related activities administered by business segments, assess adherence to policies and procedures and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and evaluate results to determine if issues exist and improvement recommendations are necessary.
- Coordinate with the management team the development of credit review objectives and related procedures to address relevant credit risks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of Credit Review tools and methods.
- Identify and communicate emerging risk issues to enhance credit risk management practices across the enterprise.
- Through contribution to Credit Review leadership presentations, provide senior management and the Board of Directors with information regarding the identification, measurement, and management of credit risk for designated credit risk focus area.
- Represent Credit Review in risk meetings with business segments and affiliates, executive leadership, and the Board when necessary.
- Monitor annual plan progress and changes, manage third party credit reviewers, engagement budget/staffing and recommendation status and follow-up related to areas of responsibility.
- Serve as SME on special projects / targeted reviews outside of traditional exams.
- Conducts and/or provides oversight of continuous monitoring activities on assigned portfolios.
- Produces Reports of Independent Credit Review documenting review findings for presentation to senior management and ultimately executive management. Reports of Examination include assessment of credit risk, risk mitigates, root causes of any issues, and identifies recommendations or issues requiring an action plan for remediation. Reports follow an established structure per department guidelines.
- Organizes and/or provides verbal presentation of review findings to appropriate audience primarily department management, division management, lending staff, and credit management.
- Maintains an excellent working knowledge of Bank's lending policies and procedures to measure policy compliance during reviews. Stays informed on new loan products, industry trends and regulatory changes.
- Assures that workpapers provide adequate support for conclusions and comply with established standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 10+ years' of progressively responsible experience in credit review, commercial credit risk management, portfolio monitoring, underwriting and/or analysis, including a management role
- Strong working knowledge of risk and/or commercial credit risk management and control frameworks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to engage in difficult conversations, as well as ability to manage multiple engagements/projects simultaneously are essential to providing a strong, independent role when evaluating areas of the Bank and Holdco
- Prior Commercial Credit Review and/or risk officer experience.
- Project management skills, ability to deliver high quality results while meeting deadlines, department, and personal goals.
- Technical accounting (GAAP) or financial statement analysis knowledge
- Working knowledge of MS Access, Excel, Word and credit/statistical analysis tools
- Conflict management experience
