Summary: The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Credit and Collateral Risk is responsible for overseeing the Bank’s Credit Risk Review and Collateral Risk functions. This includes managing the departments that conduct internal loan reviews, real estate appraisals, environmental assessments, loan concentration analysis, and loan stress tests. The SVP will ensure that these areas operate in compliance with regulatory guidance and industry best practices, providing the Board of Directors and Executive Management with an independent assessment of the Bank's credit, collateral, loan concentration, and real estate market risks.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership and Strategy:
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the Credit Risk Review and Collateral Risk departments.
  • Establish departmental strategies and budgets that align with the Bank’s overall business plan.
  • Serve as a leader and advocate for innovation within the Credit Risk Review and Collateral Risk policies, procedures, and processes.
  1. Oversight of Credit, Collateral, and Loan Concentration Risks
  • Oversee the analysis and assessment of credit and real estate market risks.
  • Ensure the completion of loan reviews that accurately reflect the credit risk profile of each loan.
  • Ensure comprehensive stress testing and risk evaluation processes are in place to manage and mitigate these risks.
  • Develop and implement strategies to address identified credit and collateral risks that align with the Bank’s risk appetite and risk management framework.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory examiners and external audits relative to Credit Risk.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders, co-sourcing partners, external auditors, and regulatory examiners.
  • Prepare for and support regulatory examinations, coordinating responses to inquiries, findings and requests involving credit or collateral risks.
  • Address findings and implement corrective action plans resulting from examinations and audits.
  1. Policy Development and Documentation:
  • Develop, implement, and maintain credit risk review and collateral risk policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory guidance and industry best practices.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of risk-focused valuation and environmental risk management programs.
  1. Risk Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Identify and monitor developments and trends at the portfolio and industry level through targeted and continuous monitoring of key credit risks and trends.
  • Provide executive management and the Board of Directors with regular reports on credit, collateral, and loan concentration risks, including quarterly presentations to the Bank’s Audit Committee.
  • Establish and monitor key risk indicators (KRIs) to assess existing and emerging credit risks facing the Bank.
  1. Oversight of Staff and Resources:
  • Supervise the Directors of Credit Risk Review and Collateral Risk, overseeing their programs and the professional development of the staff.
  • Establish clear goals for the staff, ensuring accountability for performance.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, professional development, and diversity; and provide active management and support of subordinate Directors and their staff.
  • Exercises the usual authority of a Department Head concerning staffing, performance evaluations, salary recommendations, promotions, demotions, transfers, and terminations. Communicates performance to executive management.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the Bank’s DEI Goals and Diversity Initiatives.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree preferred in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in bank credit, with a strong background in credit risk management and collateral valuation.
  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit risk management, real estate appraisal, and environmental assessment practices and related regulatory guidance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with senior management and the Board of Directors.
