LOCATION AND POSITION INFORMATION:
Duties, Responsibilities & Characteristics:
* Flexible and adaptable, this role collaborates with the LSM Director and the Museums Exhibit Team, to create strategic long- and short-term fundraising plans that increase revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization; as well as assisting with development projects related to the Louisiana State Museum organization, including but not limited to exhibitions at the New Orleans museums and the regional museums around the State.
* Proactive and resourceful, the Development Director will manage a portfolio of prospects; ask for, secure, and steward significant financial contributions to meet and/or exceed budgeted goals with a focus on planned giving and major gifts via the Louisiana Museum Foundation (LMF), Friends of the Cabildo (FOC) and the Regional Friends Groups and Foundations.
* Motivating and positive, the Development Director will manage and inspire the exhibits team to meet the organizations goals; must be a problem solver, receptive to giving and receiving structural feedback, open to new ideas and continuous improvement.
* Excellent communicator with extensive relationship building skills, the position will collaborate with the Marketing Team to align with all campaigns that augment donor engagement and retention.
* The Development Director also develops partnerships with donors, volunteers and employees to expand the organization's fundraising capacity.
* Analytical and curious, with the tenacity to drive, create, and share metrics, the Development Director will develop robust prospect tracking processes, as well as monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities.
* Monitors and benchmarks trends in the community, region and nationally and be responsible for adapting fundraising strategies as necessary.
* Develops and implements special fundraising campaigns for e.g. New/Existing exhibits, Capital and Endowment Campaigns, Artifact restoration and equipment upgrades.
* Other duties as requested by LSM Director.

- The Director of Development is a position within the Office of State Museums in New Orleans, Louisiana.
- The Director of Development reports to the Louisiana State Museum (LSM) Director, and articulates the vision of the organization's impact, and will develop and nurture relationships internally and externally to help grow the organization's success.
