The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

The Head of Cyber Underwriting will coordinate local execution of the global Cyber strategy across all business segments in North America, including Specialty, Middle Markets, Canada, Bermuda, Programs, and coordinating with Retail Markets. This role will liaise with Actuarial, Claims, Cyber Risk Engineering Services, other key functional groups, the Global Cyber Office, and the network of CUOs and profit center leaders across the aforementioned business segments to ensure business needs are integrated across and enable us to drive profitable underwriting within respective business. The Head of Cyber Underwriting will raise awareness on emerging risks in the Cyber product portfolio, articulate and execute a clear strategy, build culture and camaraderie within the community of cyber underwriters across North America, open new and expanded distribution channels, be a strong and visible though leader both internally and externally, and contribute to the development of our global strategy focused on capturing this opportunity in a profitable way. This role will operate within a heavily matrixed environment reporting directly to the NA CUO with a dual reporting line to the Global Head of Cyber.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy & Execution

  • Owner of cyber strategy for North America, and contributes to the development of the global Cyber strategy for GRS.
  • Engaged directly in the business for key and complex risks, including as a technical referral officer.
  • Supports the Global Head of Cyber in building a single view of risk across the Business and ensures execution within respective business in alignment with GRS strategy.
  • Develops close relationships and operates within team of teams environment to ensure successful execution with regional leadership including Presidents and CUOs of respective segments where Cyber is written.
  • Partners closely with CUOs to provide input and guidance on authority limits for Cyber which enable profitable growth in our Cyber business in alignment with our strategy.
  • Responsible for advocating for and allocating tolerance across NA in collaboration with the Global Head of Cyber.
  • Represents NA as an external point of contact for Cyber and acts as a thought leader in the market.
  • Collaborates and works closely with other Heads of Cyber to exchange Cyber data, insights, and best practices across businesses.
  • Collaborates with actuarial to support the Cyber product pricing.
  • Works closely with Global Cyber Office and Risk to validate UW assumptions in various RDSs for the sake of portfolio management and cyber catastrophe modeling.
  • Work with Risk Engineering Services to develop improved UW assessment tools and standards to better evaluate customer risk management approaches.
  • Work with Corporate L&D to ensure that Cyber L&D program supports the needs of the business; and raise the overall level of cyber talent across North America.

UW Capability Development

  • Undertakes Cyber capability assessments across underwriting teams within respective business.
  • Drives knowledge sharing for relevant global and regional trends and information on evolving nature of risk, performance results, claim trends, etc. that will then be used to inform local underwriting strategy decisions
  • Responsible for advocating for and allocating tolerance across NA.
Qualifications
  • At least 10+ years Underwriting P&L experience
  • Strong experience in technical training for cyber
  • Cyber product expertise and underwriting experience, working knowledge of relevant products. Deep understanding of how the pieces of the organization fit together to create value and deliver results. Maintain a solid grasp on the ever-changing context within which the business competes.
  • Understands the basics of multi-national insurance markets and programs.
  • Leader with strategic mindset and demonstrated relationship building ability.
  • Ability to form effective and trusting relationships with superiors, peers, and direct reports, studying, and meeting the needs of key stakeholders.
  • Able to operate and influence in a complex matrix environment, acting as the convenor for capabilities owned by others. Can articulate views, engage other ideas, analyze data for insights, weigh alternatives, own the final call, and communicate decisions clearly.
  • Able to advocate for Cyber topics internally and externally and gain alignment for cyber processes, tools, and capabilities across markets Knowledge, skills, and other capabilities normally acquired through a bachelor's degree or equivalent and 15+ years of related experience.
