As a senior software engineer, you’ll be part of a small group working to prototype and ship ML-powered features that integrate deeply into watchOS experiences millions use every day. You’ll work closely with the teams building all the applications and frameworks that make up watchOS, as well as new hardware and human interface teams, to build experiences that are only just becoming possible from advances in LLM and Generative AI research.DescriptionYou will have many responsibilities relating to the design, development, and testing of device software. We love prototyping new ideas to explore the frontier of what is possible, but our success is measured by our ability to productize and ship highly-polished features to millions of Apple Watch users. Responsibilities include: - Working with designers to turn vague ideas into meaningful prototypes, and demoing them to stakeholders. - Writing high quality, well tested, and performant code to develop those prototypes into polished, Apple-level experiences that we’re proud to ship. - Architect systems that are extensible, adaptable, and stand the test of time. - Collaborate with dozens of app, framework, and ML teams at every level of the stack to build a strong, robust foundation for the experiences we look to ship. - Profile and optimize cutting-edge features to run well on a low-powered, highly-constrained device. - Work daily with quality assurance teams to find and fix all the bugs, edge cases, and performance issues that impact the user experience.Minimum QualificationsBS CE/CS or equivalent experience requiredExperience as a watchOS/iOS/macOS engineerStrong Swift or Objective-C coding abilityInterest in Machine LearningHands-on experience developing major components of complex systems that cut through many layers of the tech stackFantastic attention to detail, with experience shipping highly polished and performant featuresExcellent communication and collaborative skillsPreferred QualificationsExtensive experience building polished UIs for Apple platformsML experience, and/or previous projects utilizing Generative AI / LLMsLed development of an application or feature with millions of usersPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
