Our group is looking for a highly motivated Power Performance Engineer to optimize software design for Apple’s latest products, including the next generation of Apple Watch, AirPods, iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
You will deliver outstanding battery life and power efficiency to our customers in this role. This involves close collaboration with a cross-functional team of software developers, QA engineers, hardware engineers, and project managers.
DescriptionAs a key member of the Connectivity Firmware Performance team, you will work on software design, testing, and optimization from early prototypes until productization! The work involves devising performance evaluation methodologies on SW/HW prototypes, analyzing logs, and making recommendations for implementing software based on trade-off analysis at a system and product level.
Responsibilities include:
Working with cross-functional teams to establish power targets (KPIs) to be met under various operating conditions
Driving SW-based power optimizations based on performance trade-off analysis
Collecting, analyzing, and presenting power data on various prototype hardware and final platforms
Identifying, isolating, and root-causing problem areas using debugging and data analysis skills
Designing tests to assess power impact of new HW/SW features
Continuously improving test coverage, methodology, and efficiency
Minimum QualificationsUnderstanding of computer architecture, operating system concepts, EE fundamentals, and concepts of power consumption and power managementProgramming in Python or C/C++Experience in test planning, validation, uncovering issues, and driving issues to resolution with engineering teamsTechnology understanding of Wi-Fi, BT, or related protocolsBS Electrical engineering, Computer engineering, Software engineering, or Computer SciencePreferred QualificationsExperience with power, performance trade-off analysisExperience with CPU profiling and optimizationsProgramming in C or C++Approach problems with flexibility and curiosityFocus on what truly mattersAnticipate challenges and manage conflicts effectivelyAbility to dive deep technically, learn new technologies, and understand the small technical nuances of a systemExcellent written and verbal communication skills and experience presenting data to cross-functional teams and/or managementMS or PhDPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
