The Applied Networking team provides the core infrastructure for device-to-device communications, including both messaging and realtime communications. The team's frameworks unlock sharing, collaboration, messaging, and secure connectivity, providing API surfaces enable Apple products such as iMessage, FaceTime, HomeKit, SharePlay, Apple Watch, AirDrop, and more. If this opportunity sounds exciting to you, please apply!DescriptionAs an Applied Networking Frameworks Engineer, you will have a unique ability to build innovative networking and communications protocols and frameworks that surprise and delight our users. In this position, you’ll play a crucial role in building these networking and communications features. You will design, implement, maintain, and evangelize frameworks to unlock new and innovative networked use cases on our platforms, often working in Swift and Objective-C on protocols, frameworks, and daemons to accomplish this. You will craft thoughtful APIs which are a delight for developers to leverage to build magical experiences that span multiple devices and multiple users. You will ship critical components in Apple operating systems behind these APIs, taking into account network characteristics and power considerations in your implementation. At Apple, collaboration, connection, and a seamless multi-device ecosystem are core to many of the features that customers cherish most. You will play a meaningful role in advancing these features for hundreds of millions of users across the many products and services we make.Minimum QualificationsBachelors Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experienceStrong software development and architecture design skills, with experience in at least one object-oriented programming language like Swift, Objective-C, or C++Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skillsSelf-directed and can solve problems independentlyPreferred QualificationsStrong understanding of networking protocols and peer-to-peer or client-server architecture, with an understanding of trade-offs between solutions (e.g. latency, bandwidth, power)Experience with iOS and/or macOS development and familiarity with Apple SDKsExperience in multi-process and multi-threaded programmingExperience shipping features built on top of networking technologies (e.g. Bonjour, WiFi, Bluetooth)Experience with Unix development, daemons, cross-process communication, etc.Familiarity with distributed systemsExperience building applications which are secure and private by design, e.g. using end-to-end encryption and/or media and realtime communication encryptionProven track record building real-time, multi-user applications and frameworksPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
