The Role at a Glance:

We are seeking an experienced VP, Finance to join our driven and solutions-oriented, centralized Houston, TX based Accounting Organization.

Reporting to the CFO, the VP Finance and Accounting is an executive leader who leads our Corporate Accounting, Shared Services and Tax compliance. As the VP you will partner with all areas of business including Corporate Finance, Segment Operations & Finance, Executive Leadership, IS, and other corporate functions. This leader is expected to be an integral part of Finance Transformation Initiatives including improving the efficiency and effectiveness of policies, procedures, systems, and the continued standardization and centralization of transactional activity into the Shared Service Center and Corporate Accounting.

In this position you will be self-directed and demonstrate strong personal accountability. In addition, you will utilize influencing skills and communication to ensure that the teams are adopting transformative change and meeting objectives.

What you'll be doing:

  • Actively support and train the team to improve their efficiency and effectiveness by proactively organizing work, people, and tasks.

  • Direct the Accounting Team by understanding the business and connecting it with results to help influence and drive better overall company practices, efficiencies, and results.

  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the department including team activities to ensure effective communication and collaboration with other areas of the organization.

  • Manage, develop, and mentor a team of 70+ accounting, tax, and administrative professionals.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and policies, to ensure adherence to company guidelines.

  • Manage weekly and monthly closing of financial records and posting of month-end information; ensure accuracy of financial statements.

  • Provide accounting assistance to field managers and operations staff; respond to financial questions/concerns to meet business needs.

  • Partner with other finance functions including finance and treasury functions on close activities, account reconciliations, and process improvement.

  • Partner with IT on system implementations, change requests, timely resolution of close/reporting issues, along with continuous improvement initiatives, system enhancements and/or changes.

  • Act as a liaison between the company, government, and external auditors to meet information needs, ensure internal controls are working effectively, and propose improvements to support an evolving accounting environment.

  • Oversee any non-recurring projects like optimization of systems.

  • Support or manage other ad-hoc projects.

What we're looking for:

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • 15+ years of experience in finance/accounting.

  • 5+ years experience with leading teams across multiple areas in Finance/Accounting.

  • Ability to work flexible hours due to team needs with around 20% travel.

  • Dedication to nurturing and growing the team by providing team members with the support and resources they need to excel, while fostering an environment where collaboration and innovation thrive.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with general accounting, month end closing procedures, controls, internal reporting & analytics, and working with external auditors.

  • Deep knowledge of accounting; conceptual and practical experience in researching, understanding, and communicating technical accounting issues.

  • Experience working with IFRS accounting principles and Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains accounting software.

  • Ability to build trust and strong relationships, finding solutions and influencing outcomes to drive superlative performance.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Comfort and capability in navigating uncertain or unclear situations, making informed decisions, and adapting to changing circumstances.

  • Turn data from various sources into insights with a strong mindfulness in a fast-changing environment.

  • Developed organizational and project management skills.

  • Upholding strong moral and ethical principles, being honest, trustworthy, and dependable in all interactions and decisions is fundamental for building trust and maintaining a positive reputation.

  • Demonstrated initiative-taker, ongoing self-growth and development, advancement potential.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Master’s degree in a related field.

  • ERP Implementation Experience (SAP S/4)

  • CPA.

  • Experience in a matrixed environment in food/contract services.
