We are seeking candidates for the position of Rail Vehicle Electrical / Electronic Maintainer - Specialist (0840) in our Rail Vehicle Maintenance Shops.

Compensation Data

-for SEPTA City Transit Division: $36.84/hr. (Increase to $40.93/hr. after 12 months)

-for SEPTA Suburban Transit Division: $35.85/hr. (Increase to $39.83/hr. after 12 months)

(Note, Candidate Division selection will be based on the needs of SEPTA)

OVERALL DESCRIPTION

As an experienced electronic specialist, inspects, analyzes, diagnoses, rates, and repairs rail vehicle systems including electronic, electrical pneumatic, hydraulic and auxiliary and HVAC systems.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILTIES

  1. To be proficient in the inspection, analysis, diagnosis, rating, and repair of rail vehicles. System types within these rail vehicles include, but are not limited to: electronic, electrical pneumatic, hydraulic and auxiliary and HVAC systems.
  2. Inspects, tests, and performs circuit analysis with appropriate diagnostic test equipment, to determine the level of, or extent of repair, to return failed unit to a serviceable. Diagnostic test equipment to include, but not limited to: OHM meters, DMM's volt/amp meters, milliohm meters, HI-POT, proprietary test fixtures and PTU's (Portable Test Unit), soldering irons, component removal and vehicle rating equipment.
  3. Makes intermediate and permanent repairs to vehicles and/or equipment; ability to work independently, within a high voltage environment, to complete assigned tasks safely and within manufactures specification.
  4. Troubleshoots to component level effectively. Identifies, isolates and performs required repairs, in a timely manner so as to minimize unit out of service period.
  5. Works from technical documents, specifications, drawings, schematics, special instructions parts and repair manuals; obtains and maintains material tools, instruments, and equipment.
  6. Interprets circuit configurations, software and hardware diagrams, and technical specifications to successfully identify failed or intermittent vehicle systems.
  7. Analyzes and interprets waveforms, graphs and charts to establish, within engineering and manufactures specifications, the overall integrity and serviceability of a suspect system.
  8. Experienced in the understanding and repair of controller-based systems, ability to interpret software schematics and application programming logic. Performs system analysis and data dumps to portable and desktop computers for the purpose of interpreting system faults.
  9. Performs emergency duties as assigned operates vehicles in, shop and/or other specified location. Works with appropriate hand tools to accomplish all assigned tasks.
  10. Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safety concerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote the safety of others.


QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must satisfactorily complete performance tests as required by the labor agreement.
  • Formal education should include two-year technical school (relevant experience as detailed below) may be considered in lieu of technical training.
  • Demonstrated practical experience should include a work history of electronics troubleshooting and repair to component level, schematic interpretation, diagnostic testing, circuit analysis, soldering skills, and the use of computer systems (all relevant experience will be considered).
  • Position requires employee to obtain and possess all tools and equipment identified in the job description.
  • Must satisfactorily complete written qualification tests as follows: advanced electricity, basic math, hand tools, schematics.
  • Must possess valid driver's license.
