Reimagine What's Possible

This position is responsible for executing rotating equipment design and specification work, developing purchasing package specifications, vendor documentation review, technical verification, QA/QC inspection and installation/commissioning support. This position will support the Air Products - Standard Plants Product Line team projects and product lines, which utilize a variety of process technologies including cryogenic air separation (HPN N2 Generators), adsorption (O2 VSA plants), SMR (PHG H2 Generators), H2 PSA's, and N2 PSA's.

This position will require a degreed engineer with a minimum 3 years' experience in the design and application of compressors, pumps, cooling towers, etc. The individual shall be capable of generating design/purchase specifications, reviewing a vendor's technical documents and design drawings to ensure their accuracy and completeness. They are also expected to have good communication and teamwork skills.

Travel approximately 5% to 10%, including international travel, is required.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • BS Degree in Rotating Machinery, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3 years working experience on centrifugal/ reciprocating/screw compressors, blowers, pumps, silencers, cooling towers, air cooling condensers etc. in Industrial Gases, Oil & Gas, or Petro Chemical Industry.
  • Must be fully conversant with internationally recognized codes API, ASME, TEMA, IEC, etc. Familiarity with the requirements of local China codes is a plus.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the inspection of rotating machinery fabrication quality and performance testing procedures and evaluation.
  • Leadership skills, with good communication, teamwork and influencing skills.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the project team to provide rotating machinery solutions for equipment such as compressors (centrifugal/ reciprocating/ screw), blowers, cooling towers, closed-loop cooling water packaged systems, water treatment systems, oil removal systems, air and water-cooled condensers, pumps, silencers etc.
  • Prepare engineering specifications, data sheets, and inspection and testing plan for required equipment. Review suppliers' proposals and develop technical evaluations.
  • Review and approve suppliers' design calculations, fabrication drawings, and quality control documents. Witness testing of critical equipment in the suppliers manufacturing facilities.
  • Participate in plant operability reviews and hazard reviews as applicable to the rotating equipment.
  • Support the construction team during installation of equipment. Perform site inspections as needed to ensure installation in accordance with Air Products and suppliers' requirements.
  • Build good relationships and communicate with global machinery community leads to share the best practice and technology. Participation in global meetings and conferences.
  • Support project proposal development by providing machinery equipment cost and manhour estimates.
  • Provide required machinery engineering support to our operating facilities in the Americas.
  • Provide sound technical direction to project teams for problem solving and decision making.
  • Additional Beneficial Mechanical Skills include a) review systems for material compatibility, mechanical integrity, and the ability to review flowsheets from a mechanical systems perspective, b) apply mechanical design software (i.e. Compress) to generate equipment designs and supporting calculations to meet ASME code, and C) translate process requirements into mechanical specifications for safety relief valves.


Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • BS Degree in Rotating Machinery, Mechanical Engineering or Chemical/Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3 years working experience on centrifugal/ reciprocating/screw compressors, blowers, pumps, silencers, cooling towers, air cooling condensers etc. in Industrial Gases, Oil & Gas, or Petro Chemical Industry.
