This role is pivotal in building, managing, and maintaining both on-premises and cloud infrastructure to support Pathology Systems and its applications.The successful candidate will lead a team dedicated to ensuring the reliability, high availability, security, and scalability of our information technology infrastructure.  He/she will drive strategic initiatives to support the objectives of Pathology Systems. In addition to leadership responsibilities, the candidate will also contribute technically as needed.  The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of fostering relationships and collaborations between various teams and must possess excellent interpersonal skills, along with strong oral and written communication abilities.Key Responsibilities:Oversee the design, implementation, and integration of high-performance computing infrastructure for Pathology applications, including on-premises and cloud cluster computing, storage, and networking.Manage data solutions, including on-premises and cloud storage, lifecycle management, archiving, security, and access control.Implement best practices for virtual machines and containerized applications, including strategies for hyperconverged infrastructure, continuous integration/continuous deployment, and orchestration using Kubernetes for resource management, workload optimization, high availability, security, and scalability.Oversee the expansion of computing and storage infrastructure into the cloud.Plan initiatives and projects in collaboration with leadership.Interface with enterprise information system teams and vendors.Directly supervise the Infrastructure team, fostering a positive team environment through leadership, mentoring, and education.Assume the role of Project Manager as needed, leveraging in-depth knowledge of current technologies, related systems, and workflows to drive projects to successful completion.Provide timely problem escalation reporting with potential solutions and/or risk mitigation strategies to IS and/or hospital management.Collaborate closely with Pathology faculty, staff, and leadership on both operational and strategic planning initiatives.Work with MGB leaders and Institute divisions to address institutional strategies and needs.Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans to minimize downtime and ensure data integrity.Collaborate with other departments to identify common technology needs and develop solutions that support patient care, administrative functions, and research initiatives.Evaluate new technologies and software applications to enhance operational efficiency.Ensure seamless integration of new technology solutions with existing systems and workflows.Set clear goals and expectations for team members and provide ongoing feedback and performance evaluations.Manage relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure the timely delivery of products and services.Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends, making recommendations for adoption based on business needs and industry best practicesQualificationsQUALIFICATIONS: Required proficiency in high-performance computing and networking, both on-premises and in the cloud.Required proficiency in server/virtual machine management and operating systems, specifically Linux and Windows.Required proficiency in server, racking, and network configuration, including associated budgeting.Required proficiency in network security and firewall configurations.Required experience with distributed storage systems, including but not limited to OpenZFS, GlusterFS, BeeGFS, TrueNAS, Ceph, HDFS, and object storage.Required experience with container engines and container orchestration systems, such as Kubernetes and OpenShift.SQL proficiency with MySQL, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, and knowledge of NoSQL and other DBMS (e.g., MongoDB, Apache CouchDB, Snowflake) is a plus.Preferred experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Ansible and Terraform.Preferred experience with GPU computing and its associated cluster networking requirements.Preferred experience with workflow orchestration/pipeline management platforms, such as Slurm, Airflow, and Argo.Preferred experience with managing computing, storage, virtual machines, and Kubernetes in cloud environments like Azure, Google, and Amazon.Additional experience with Rancher Harvester, Longhorn, and Kubernetes is a plus.Additional experience with Machine Learning Ops/AI/bioinformatics pipelines is a plus.Additional experience with backend and API development using Python, NodeJS, C#, Java, or Perl is a plus.Additional experience with backend programming languages such as Python, .NET, Java, C# is a plus.Additional experience in RESTful programming, designing RESTful APIs, deploying web services, and configuring web servers (e.g., Apache, NGINX) is a plus.Familiarity with software development life cycle (SDLC) and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) principles is a plus.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts.Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.Experience leading a team is a plus.Ability to work in a highly collaborative and intellectually challenging environment.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to rapidly assess, learn, and implement new technologies/services as new needs arise, as well as communicating the use of those technologies.Excellent attention to detail.Ability to work independently and self-motivated.Strong communication skills to be able to work effectively with multidisciplinary staff, interacting with
