We are currently looking to fill the Senior Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technical Leader position with a creative person that is passionate about advancing AM technologies to benefit industry. Senior Technical Leaders are our senior-most subject-matter experts, who create and coordinate the strategy for developing technology innovations that anticipate and meet market needs in a core technology area. By managing client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, developing innovative technical solutions, and creating industry relationships and partnerships, Senior Technical Leaders are the driving force that position EWI at the "cutting edge" of industrial technologies.
The Senior AM Technical Leader would have primary responsibility in EWI's Buffalo, NY office while coordinating and collaborating with AM-aligned technologies and resources in our Columbus, OH location. Between both locations, EWI possesses one of the most diverse portfolios of AM technologies in the world. The ideal candidate brings a well-established technical background and international reputation capable of supporting these resources and fulfilling the core functions of the position: professional branding, innovation, technical sales, project leadership, and technical quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Collaborate with Business Development Directors to assess and anticipate technology needs of the market
- Develop technology roadmaps that address market needs and coordinate execution of that strategy utilizing both internal and external resources
- Develop externally funded and internal R&D projects to drive industry-altering technology innovation solutions and objectives
- Lead technical dialogue with customers, particularly key or high-value accounts, to identify and mature project opportunities
- Serve as principal investigator on large programs that advance AM technologies
- Actively participate in EWI's Additive Manufacturing Consortium and influence research topics
- Write proposals that meet clients' technical needs and provide a clear value proposition
- Serve as business development liaison for key accounts specific to your technical area of expertise
- Lead the promotion of EWI's technical capabilities through publications, conferences, technical committees, and marketing content development
- Significantly influence the technical and financial health of the core technology team by positioning it as a thought leader in additive manufacturing and innovation
- Develop a strong pipeline of project work to ensure technology sustainability at EWI
- Assist Engineering Managers in selecting, developing, and directing engineering talent
- Mentor and develop both the technical and communication skills of less experienced staff
- Develop equipment manufacturer partnerships to expand EWI's in-house technical offerings
- Provide technical oversight during project execution to ensure appropriate technical approaches are employed, takes responsibility for quality of results and deliverables to clients (including reports)
- Prepare client reports and present project results to clients for larger or more visible projects
- Stay current with industry trends and technical advancements
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Well-established, industry-recognized knowledge and expertise in Additive Manufacturing
- Proficiency in executing scientific research and performing experimental analysis
- Basic metallurgical knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel-based alloys
- Utilizes judgment in communication styles and behaviors; recognizes impact on other team members
- Exercises initiative and creativity within assigned project work
- Exhibits proficient written and verbal communication with customers both internal and external
- Analyzes and understands impact of individual contribution to project financial performance
- Proven adaptability and flexibility as a part of team
- Ability to maintain excellent customer relationships both internal and external
- Proven success in a team-oriented environment
- Strong ability to plan and organize tasks
- A demonstrated passion for AM processing in manufacturing
- Willingness to travel (25%) to customer sites and conferences
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Office environment and laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;
- Use finger and hand dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, grip, manipulate, and measure;
- Use vision to see, analyze, and adjust;
- Periodically move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stand, stoop, bend and crouch; and
- Lift 10 to 40 pounds occasionally
EDUCATION:
- M.S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field
EXPERIENCE:
- Fifteen (15) years of industrial or R&D experience with at least five (5) years in the Additive Manufacturing field
