Schedule: Full-Time, 8:30a-5pm Monday-Friday, this is not a remote position

Position Summary: Originates high quality member business loan opportunities within the credit union's field of membership and proactively manages an assigned commercial loan portfolio. Analyzes, develops, and structures loan requests in a sound manner to achieve the best possible outcome for MCU and its membership. Delivers superior service and thoughtful solutions in strict compliance with applicable lending regulations and policies.

Essential Functions:
  • Identifies potential loan markets, centers of influence, and business partners to develop prospects for commercial loans and deposits.
  • Originates commercial loan opportunities within MCU's field of membership.
  • Interviews and assesses potential commercial borrowers and loan sponsors; compiles and organizes relevant information in support of member business loan requests.
  • Analyzes financial statements, credit history, business/industry profiles, and market trends.
  • Identifies and assembles relevant information to initiate collateral valuations.
  • Works with underwriters and member applicants to resolve questions and complete all necessary documents in support of loan requests, renewals, and modifications.
  • Presents to MCUCS management a thorough summary of each loan request which identifies loan sponsors, assesses general creditworthiness, identifies risks/mitigants, and proposes terms which demonstrate sound commercial lending principals.
  • Prepares non-binding loan proposals and facilitates negotiation of loan structure with applicants, including fees, loan repayment options, and other credit terms.
  • Approves loans within specified limits or circulates loan requests to the Manager of MCUCS and the credit committee for approval.
  • Drafts and circulates accurate loan commitments in compliance with MCU procedure. Ensures loan agreements are complete, accurate, and in alignment with approvals, regulations, and policy.
  • Effectively communicates and sets appropriate expectations with applicants, members, vendors, and credit union staff.
  • Assures timely loan closing and funding activities and proactively manages an assigned commercial loan portfolio.
  • Advises MCUCS management of external factors that may affect establishment lending policies, such as new or revised legislation and regulations. Recommends and accommodates the implementation of appropriate changes to establishment policies and procedures.
  • Promotes and cross-sells MCU business suite of deposit and cash management products along with other establishment products and services as appropriate to customer needs.
  • Provides loan data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.
  • Communicates regularly with existing commercial loan members to ensure receipt of timely loan payments and positive depository account activity, as well as the receipt of timely and accurate financial statement reporting and, where appropriate, current collateral reporting. Regularly prepares and files written memorandums to document relationship activity. Analyzes the interim financial performance of borrowers. Monitors and modifies commercial loan risk ratings as appropriate. Documents material changes to the condition of collateral.
  • Interfaces with federal regulators, examiners, auditors, and credit union personnel to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a positive image of the credit union at all times. Regularly attends appropriate business networking and charitable functions in order to develop commercial lending prospects. Interfaces effectively with credit union branch personnel to further develop and cross sell membership relationships.

Knowledge and Experience:
  • 10 years or more as a business development officer, relationship manager, or commercial lender.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental commercial credit analysis concepts and the ability to thoughtfully analyze financial statements and tax returns.
  • Working knowledge of loan regulations
  • Enthusiasm to learn and cross-sell products and services.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Solid verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Business, accounting, finance, or economics course of study preferred.

Physical Requirements: Normal physical requirements. Must be able to effectively utilize a computer, keyboard, calculator

and telephone.

Special Requirements: Must maintain relevant working knowledge of lending laws and regulations, along with thorough knowledge of Credit Union loan policy manual, and any other applicable processes.
