Finance Manager

Position Summary

We are looking for a Finance Manager to join our Mediabrands team. The Finance Manager handles the planning and monthly financial management process and is responsible for identifying, explaining, and following-up on all actual variances against budget/forecast, as well as preparing budgets and forecasts within the deadlines. This role involves substantial interaction and collaboration with different internal and possible external stakeholders. The Finance Manager will ensure that revenue is booked accurately, obtaining and providing all necessary documentation to substantiate accruals/deferrals in accordance with IPG revenue recognition policy.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Reporting
  • Preparing/reviewing monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports and variance analyses for multiple stakeholders;
  • Investigating, explaining, and resolving all variances where applicable (current vs. forecast, current vs. prior years, quarter vs quarter, etc.;
  • Work with Omaha Shared Service G/L team to ensure all month-end provisions are properly booked, and all B/S accounts are reconciled appropriately with sufficient back-up.
  • Preparing/reviewing and analyzing results on client profitability, employee utilization, and staff allocation to identify any issues and make recommendations for performance improvements where applicable;
  • Coordinating with the revenue recognition team to ensure client agreements are in place for all clients and determine appropriate revenue recognition methods;

FP&A / Budgeting
  • Preparing and loading budgets and forecasts;
  • Ensuring internal tools, Hyperion and Vantage (SAP), schedules are loaded and consolidated appropriately;
  • Liaising with the Media account groups on an on-going basis for updates on current revenue position by Client versus forecast, and for updates on new business revenue streams;

Operations/Billings
  • Overseeing the Client Finance Analysts / Omaha Shared Services to ensure that Client fee and commission billings are set up properly across the various systems (DDS, Vantage (SAP));
  • Monitoring Client accounts receivable (A/R) aging and following-up with Shared Services Collections and/or Client Service Teams to ensure receivable balances do not exceed 90 days;
  • Oversee intercompany and direct client billing performed by Client Finance Analysts.
  • Coordinate with local tax firm and IPG tax team all necessary tax filings (income tax, sales tax, etc.); prepare provisions as required for quarter-end/year-end close.
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects necessary to pass periodic internal or external (including client) audit testing, and to correct any deficiencies discovered as a result therefrom.
  • Performing other duties/ad hoc projects as assigned which are within the scope of this role.

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Post-secondary education - University/College graduate in Finance or Accounting, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CPA designation or equivalent in progress or completed.
  • Minimum of 2 years' of experience in a senior finance role, preferably within a media agency, marketing or advertising setting.
  • Excellent attention to detail, and a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work well and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as well as independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; aptitude for building internal/external relationships.
  • Excellent organizational skills with an excellent ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Ability to work with confidential data while maintaining high level of discretion.
  • Advanced Excel skills - strong ability to understand data structures, manipulate large volumes of data, build models, and generate insights.
  • Knowledge of Power Query/Power BI, VBA, and databases is an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • DDS, SAP, and Hyperion systems experience would be an asset; Comfortable learning new software/applications.
